Tiempo para la familia//Time for the family

Diapositiva1.JPG

When we talk about family, the first idea that comes to my mind is that group of people with whom I have shared throughout my life where love, solidarity, empathy, respect, responsibility are above any adversity, discomfort or selfishness. By this I mean that in every family there are positive and negative situations, however, the positive emotional bonds are so strong that they manage to maintain the group and give continuity and value to one of the most significant relationships we can have.

Familia toda.jpg

When I think of my family, the first image that comes to my mind is the six homes made up of my mother and each of her five children, with their respective partners and children, which has been expanded by the children of the children. Today, for various reasons, many are out of the country but this physical distance, which hurts, has found ways to maintain the union and that the affections do not dissolve in the absences because they are always present.

Friends of the @family-friends community invite us to talk about the time we have to share with our family. A topic that I find enriching because it allows us to value what we do to maintain these ties and suddenly ask ourselves if we can do more, for this they provide us with a series of questions whose answers, below, I share with you.

1.- What activities do you normally do together?

I have the great advantage of living in a small village, I mean, at the time my mom bought a piece of land where she and her children could build their respective houses, only one wanted to make a separate nest and bought 200 meters away from the main house, hahaha. This allows us to be in constant contact, for example, every morning I walk with one of my sisters, and on the way back we stop at the other one's house to have coffee and talk about my mother, whose health is more delicate every day, about the children, the couples, about ourselves, about what we are going to do, how we are going to do it, how we feel, what part of responsibility each one assumes, in short, we are planning, solving and in the middle of all this we feel supported, accompanied.

2.- Would you like to have more time to dedicate to your loved ones?

The truth is that I feel that we dedicate enough time to each other, we are always inventing something to be together and usually on Sundays we plan some recreational activity to relieve the ups and downs of the week and enjoy a beautiful moment.

3.- Which members of your family do you share with on a regular basis?

I share with two of my sisters. On weekends when we get together it is common for my three nieces who live in the "village" to join us. On those Sunday afternoons we play cards, scrablee and during the pandemic we created the "family movie" afternoon, which even the nieces' boyfriends joined us. Now we go to the movies every 15 days and two girls, granddaughters of one of my sisters, have joined us, they are lovely girls who fill us with joy.

I also love to make a dish during the week and invite my sisters to share some time at my house. Most of the time one of the nieces joins us, she is a young talkative girl who loves to tell us about her work as an architect, and we delight in her creativity and professionalism.

4.- Think about a moment when for some reason, a move or a long trip, you are separated from your family and can no longer share with them very often, how would you feel?

Here I don't have to make a great imaginative effort because I live the situation and, although I am not the one who left but the others, the feeling of emptiness, of absence is immense. I am going to stop here to show you a little of the situation.

My two children live in Spain, I know my eldest granddaughter but not my youngest, who is already four years old. I have learned to accept the situation, I try to focus on the advantages that being there has for them and the three of us make conscious efforts to stay together so we talk frequently, photos come and go, we rejoice together for the achievements that each one is reaching, we cry just with the frustrations when things do not go as planned, we give each other encouragement and support to move forward. Although we don't tell each other often, we dream and work for a reunion.

Tiempo. Familia 2020 4.jpg

It is different with the granddaughters. My love for them is unconditional but it is different for them to create bonds with grandparents they know very little and through a phone screen, however, I manage to make contact with them constantly and leave them a record of our existence and how much we love them, for example, in May they celebrated their birthday and I made a digital album for each of them of their achievements during the past year, we commented on it and it was fun for them. With these details I am filling with joy the spaces of sadness that comes from not having those you love close to you.

One of my sisters is in Chile with her two children, I miss her a lot, during the week we talk two or three times, we are very attentive to each other and as with my children her joys are mine and her sadness too. I am excited to think about the possibility of seeing her, about a month ago one of her sons visited us and it was a great joy to hug him and share a few days with him.

A little more than a year ago a niece returned from Chile with her family, they have two girls who have given new joys to the family, they are witty, cheerful, affectionate and they let themselves be loved. On Saturday another niece arrived from Prague with her family, they came to visit for a month and a half, hugging them was a wonderful moment. And so, we go along with this strange world of affection that we have had to live in.

5.- Is it important to spend quality time with the family? Why?

The closeness is not enough to feel and be well with the family, it is the quality of the time, of the feelings that are cultivated in it what makes the bonds closer and stronger.
Quality time is the one that opens the floodgates of intimacy, trust, awakens empathy and moves to support, for me, having my sisters close, living daily with them is therapeutic, healing, they fill a large part of my emotional world and I enjoy, most of the time, every moment I spend with them.

Thanks to the @family-friends community for opening this initiative that leads us to value the family and make us aware of the quality time we spend with them. Here is the link to the initiative and I take the opportunity to invite friends @irvinc, @doriscova8 and @belkisa758 to participate.

Me encantó tu fotografía familiar central.
Saludos amiga.

Amo esa foto. Saludos, feliz domingo.😊
