¡Hola gente de hive! En estos días visite el jardín de mi amiga Ramonita y me enseño su colección de cactus es por esto que hoy les vengo a enseñar algunas fotos que les tome y hablarles un poco de esta planta milenaria. En mi investigación me sorprendí al saber que la mayoría de las especies de cactus son originarias de América, excepto la especie Rhipsalis baccifera que se expandió por África tropical y Madagascar. Y es la más notoria de la familia de las suculentas, pues se ha hecho popular en diversas zonas del mundo.
Hello hive people! These days I visited my friend Ramonita's garden and she showed me her cactus collection, that's why today I am going to show you some pictures I took and tell you a little bit about this millenary plant. In my research I was surprised to learn that most of the cactus species are native to America, except the species Rhipsalis baccifera that spread to tropical Africa and Madagascar. And it is the most notorious of the succulent family, as it has become popular in various parts of the world.
Surely you know that their main characteristic is to store a large amount of water, and there are about 200 types of cacti and more than 2,000 cataloged species. Cacti are arid and dry climate, they belong to the xerophytic vegetation, that is why they withstand drought well, but like all plants also need to conserve water to live; coming from desert areas where nights can be very cold, they have a moderate resistance to frost.
Seguramente sabes que su característica principal es almacenar una gran cantidad de agua, y hay cerca de 200 tipos de cactus y más de 2.000 especies catalogadas. Los cactus son de clima árido y seco, pertenecen a la vegetación xerófila, es por esto que soportan bien la sequía, pero como todas las plantas también necesitan conservar agua para vivir; al provenir de zonas desérticas donde las noches pueden ser muy frías, tienen una resistencia moderada a las heladas.
El método de defensa que tienen los cactus son sus pinchos pues en su proceso evolutivo fueron sustituyendo sus hojas por estos artilugios para poder protegerse, y así evitar que los animales del desierto se los coman. Algunas de especies de cactus producen tuna o nopal que es un fruto que es comestible y se utiliza para preparar diversos géneros alimenticios, entre los que se hallan jugos y mermeladas. Sin duda, ya debes saber que almacenar una gran cantidad de agua es su característica principal. Lo que seguramente no te habían contado es que hay cerca de 200 tipos y más de 2.000 especies documentadas.

Algunas especies de cactus las cultivamos como plantas de interior y en jardines ornamentales, es por esto que al momento de regarlos conviene dejar que la tierra se seque entre riego y riego, ya que excesiva agua o un mal drenado de la tierra, provocan la aparición de hongos y esto causa la muerte de la planta. Es conveniente saber que, durante la época de calor, un riego cada 10 días es lo correcto; cuando el clima es más húmedo se han de dar más tiempo entre riego y riego. Es de muy importante no dañar las raíces porque por allí podrían entrar hongos en la planta, y eso sería su muerte. Es por esto que en el instante en que se trasplante se debe tener sumo cuidado con las raíces, pues si resulta dañada, se deberá aplicar carbón vegetal pulverizado y regar en aproximadamente en 10 días.
It is very important not to damage the roots because fungi could enter the plant from there, and that would be its death. That is why at the moment of transplanting, extreme care must be taken with the roots, because if it is damaged, charcoal should be applied and watered in approximately 10 days.
Durante la realización de este post me di cuenta que entre mis plantitas tengo cactus, ya que las suculentas que tengo en un matero son denominadas cactáceas… ahora se más de los habitantes de mi jardín y se como tratarlas mejor.
