This week in the Discovering Abilities series we feature a rare and very powerful skill. Only two cards have this ability and, considering that one of them is a Gladius edition, only one card can be used in ranked battles with this ability. This week we look at the Halving ability with the only card that can provide it: Halfling Alchemist. Let's start.

Esta semana presentamos en la serie Discovering Abilities una habilidad realmente escasa y poderosísima. Solo dos cartas cuentan con esta habilidad y, teniendo en cuenta que una de ellas es edición Gladius, solo una carta podremos utilizar en batallas de ranking con esta habilidad. Analizamos esta semana la habilidad Halving con la única carta que la puede aportar: Halfling Alchemist. Comenzamos.

Although only one card in the Splinterlands universe, excluding the Gladius edition, has the Halving ability, we can at least be thankful that it is a neutral card that can be used with any deck in the game. The effect of this ability is that it halves the attack of the card that takes damage from Halfling Alchemist. That is, if we attack a card with three attack points, it will only do one point of damage from that point on. Absolutely devastating for the enemy ranks.

A pesar de que solo una carta del universo Splinterlands, excluyendo la edición Gladius, cuenta con la habilidad Halving, al menos podemos agradecer que sea una carta neutral que podemos utilizar con cualquier mazo del juego. El efecto de esta habilidad es que reduce a la mitad el ataque de la carta que recibe daño de Halfling Alchemist. Además, el redondeo es hacia abajo. Es decir, si atacamos una carta con tres puntos de ataque, a partir de ese momento solo hará un punto de daño. Absolutamente devastador para las filas enemigas.

As I say, Halfling Alchemist, epic and neutral card is currently the only card in the game with the Halving ability in the playable editions. In the Gladius edition, an exclusive edition for clan battles, we have Trapp Falloway in the death deck, which also has this ability although, yes, at level 4, so it is highly complicated to find this ability in a clan battle.

Como digo, Halfling Alchemist, carta épica y neutral es, actualmente, la única carta del juego que cuenta con la habilidad Halving en las ediciones jugables. Dentro de la edición Gladius, edición exclusiva para batallas de clanes tenemos a Trapp Falloway en el mazo de muerte que también aporta esta habilidad aunque eso sí, a nivel 4 por lo que es altamente complicado encontrarnos esta habilidad en una batalla de clanes.

As I said before, the effect of the Halving ability is to reduce the attack of the card taking damage from Halving Alchemist by half and rounding down, if necessary, and considering that this card only has a summoning cost of two mana points, it is an ability that can be used in all game situations. Even in high mana battles where the attack reduction can be even more interesting as really powerful cards appear in this type of combat.

Como decía anteriormente, el efecto de la habilidad Halving es la de reducir el ataque de la carta que recibe daño de Halving Alchemist a la mitad y redondeando, si fuera el caso, hacía abajo. Además, teniendo en cuenta que esta carta apenas tiene un coste de invocación de dos puntos de maná, es una habilidad que podremos utilizar en todas las situaciones del juego. Incluso en batallas de alto maná donde la reducción de ataque puede ser incluso más interesante al aparecer cartas realmente poderosas en este tipo de combates.

Let's get down to business. Analyse this powerful skill on the ground in battle to see its true potential. I'll be using my water deck against @myajx88675455 who will be playing Doctor Sloan and a deck led by Shieldbearer and the rest of the ranged cards. Having "Unprotected" as a battle condition will reduce the power of this interesting tank to absolute nothingness. Here's the battle:

Vamos al grano. Analizar esta poderosa habilidad sobre el terreno en una batalla para ver su verdadero potencial. Utilizaré para ello mi mazo de agua que se medirá a @myajx88675455 que formará con Doctor Sloan y un mazo liderado por Shieldbearer y resto de cartas con ataque a distancia. El hecho de tener como condición de batalla "Unprotected" hará que el poder de este interesante tanque quede reducido a la nada más absoluta. Esta es la batalla:

If you take a look at the battle you will see that a picture is worth a thousand words. That everything I explain in this article is perfectly reflected on the battlefield and the fact is that the destruction that Halfling Alchemist does on the opponent's attack is a determining factor in a new victory for my stats. Every time he attacks he reduces the damage of my opponents and that in a battle where the opponent has a lot of offensive power is a determining factor for my victory.

Si le das un vistazo a la batalla verás que una imagen vale más que mil palabras. Que todo lo que explico en este artículo queda perfectamente reflejado sobre el campo de batalla. Y es que el destrozo que realiza Halfling Alchemist sobre el ataque rival es determinante en una nueva victoria para mis estadísticas. Cada vez que ataca reduce el daño de mis rivales y eso en una batalla donde el rival tiene mucho poder ofensivo es un factor determinante para mi victoria.

Halving is one of the best skills in the game and the rarest in the game which makes it even more useful. I must admit that I have used it very little in the past and Halfling Alchemist is not in my roster. However, after analyzing it in detail, both ability and card, it will be one of those cards that I will rent permanently to have it and use it in all the decks I have developed. It's a superb ability and usable in all game situations except in poison and earthquake battles as Halfling Alchemist's single life point would limit its presence in combat to a single round, two in earthquake as it has one shield point. In short, an essential ability that should not be missing in our roster.

Halving es una de las mejores habilidades del juego y la más rara tambieén, lo que la hace aún más útil. Debo admitir que lo he usado muy poco en el pasado y Halfling Alchemist no está en mi roster. No obstante, tras analizarla en detalle, tanto habilidad como carta, será una de esas cartas que alquilaré de forma permanente para tenerla y usarla en todos los mazos que he desarrollado. Es una habilidad excelente y utilizable en todas las situaciones de juego, excepto en las batallas de veneno y terremoto, ya que el único punto de vida de Halfling Alchemist limitaría su presencia en combate a una sola ronda, dos en terremoto ya que tiene un punto de escudo. En definitiva, una habilidad imprescindible que no debería faltar en nuestro roster.
