MONOMAD: Temple of the Iberian Icon of the Mother of God
Hello everybody! Christian architecture impresses with a variety of styles. Each generation and historical event has brought about a change in architecture. But in Orthodox churches the notion is gaining that appearance should not prevail over interior decoration and style. However, many temples look majestic not just inside, but also outside. In black and white, the temples lose all "color attributes". The temple of the Iberian Icon of the Mother of God looks impressive in the monomad. This is my entry for the #monomad challenge.
The temple looks different from different sides. Its outline stands out against the light sky. In black and white, these outlines become more expressive. This transition from light to shade is especially noticeable during daylight hours.
This is a young church. It was built at the end of the 19th century. But for a quick time it has become a very popular place for locals and guests of the city of Gomel.
There is a high-rise tower next to the main building of the temple. It is made in the same style as the main building, but different in its purpose.
This small but tall tower serves as a place for the baptism of children.
Baptism is an ancient rite that is practiced in Orthodoxy to this day. In addition to the baptismal room, a bell tower operates in this tower. On holidays, locals hear the pleasant church bell tower sound from the church grounds. This creates a festive atmosphere for the surrounding micro-districts.
I attended this church on a weekday, or rather Thursday afternoon. This is the time when people are in the workplace. The central entrance looks majestic .. In addition, if you go to the central entrance, you can see the domes of the temple. An interesting architectural solution.
There was no light in the temple during my visit. Therefore, photos may look dull.
There was no light in the temple during my visit. Therefore, photos may look dull. However, every part of the temple looks divine.
I consider such historical and religious places to be places of power. You can be a simple observer, but being here you can get a charge of power.
Black white, as I said before, allows you to see familiar things, be it architecture or animals and people, from a different angle of perception. This is critical.
The white facades of Orthodox churches, by the way, look great against the background of the surrounding reality.
Best of all, a person perceives the world around him thanks to the organs of vision - the eyes. Our eyes can appreciate art in the form of paintings, sculpture, cinema or architecture. Black and white is a distinct art form that can be applied to any kind of visual art. I like to observe everyday things devoid of bright colors.
