This morning I wondered, how long will BTC remain above $16,500?

Only Hours. BTC still works though,

the latest block records 8257 BTC transferred, worth $179 million CAD

Someone is still sending $69k through BTC right now.

Price doesn't matter as much as supply, and we know that there are only 0.002625 BTC for each of the 8 billion on the planet at $42.34. If we consider only the Bitcoins in circulation on markets, the available supply of BTC might be somewhere around 2m coins, which divided among the population is just 0.00025 BTC or $4.035 USD.
