Vintage Photos - eBay Set #1 (69-72)
See the previous post in this series here.
I made some impulse buys after getting a new scanner and picked up a huge batch of slides a while back. These pictures span from as early as the late 1940s to as late as the early 1990s. These were from Goodwill and eBay (sometimes via estate sales). There are many thousands of these slides. I will be scanning some from time to time and posting them here for posterity.
This set continues a batch of slides that I bought on eBay a while back. I don't have as much to go on as to the ultimate origin of these compared to the previous batch. They came to me from eBay and most likely were picked up at an estate sale by the seller. Most of them seem to be taken in the 1960s and same individuals are included in most of the photos. It looks like there are some that were taken in Miami and some that were taken in New Jersey and perhaps elsewhere. I get the impression that Miami was a vacation spot for this family.
The first photo in this set was processed in January 1967 and shows the couple that seem to be the subject of most of the photos in this batch as a whole cleaning up in the kitchen. Probably after some Christmas 1966 or New Year's 1967 party. The next three don't have any dates to go by but no doubt they were taken in the mid to late 1960s. They all appear to have been taken at the same time. Based on the decor I tend to think this was some sort of Valentine's dinner party though I suppose it could also be someone's anniversary. This couple seems to have had some sort of dinner party at every possible opportunity.

The entire collection that has been scanned and uploaded so far can also be found here. This also includes higher resolution versions and versions with post processing.

That apron looks so cute on him, I bet he was glad to have his picture taken! 😂
You've probably mentioned it before somewhere, but what's your scanner setup?
He shows up in aprons in quite a few pictures though this one is more flowery than most :).
I'm using an Epson V600 flatbed scanner I bought a few years back. It has a slide adapter that allows scanning four slides at a time which is the main reason these posts tend to have four photos in them. I scan at 4800 DPI and 48-bit color and save them as jpegs. I use the Digital ICE feature sometimes. It really cleans dirty/scratched slides up nicely but leaves artifacts around edges with Kodachrome slides. The color restoration option works really well too. Most of the time I'll scan slides two ways: the first time is just a raw scan, and then a second time with color restoration and optionally Digital ICE (depending on the film type). Most of the time I post the raw slide scans unless they are really bad. I don't spend any time trying to do any manual post processing.
That's actually a reasonably priced scanner for results that good. I have a million negatives I want to scan, and I want to get into film photography and development. Now I have something new to add to my growing list of things to buy! 😂
Yeah, I'm pretty happy with it. I was looking around for something to scan some old slides that belonged to my grandparents and some negatives. I got this one based on various reviews I read at the time. It does both well enough for me and I don't think you can do better without spending a lot more money than I'm willing to spend.
Yay! 🤗
