Vintage Photos - Goodwill Lot 1 (078-081)

I made some impulse buys after getting a new scanner and picked up several batches of slides a while back from Goodwill and eBay. These pictures span from as early as the late 1940s to as late as the early 1990s. There are many thousands of these slides. I will be scanning some from time to time and posting them here mainly because I find them an interesting way to look back at the past.

I don't know a whole lot about the ultimate origins of this batch of slides other than they came from Goodwill. Like previous batches, these too often have a date stamped on them that I assume indicates when the film was developed and I believe in most cases should give approximate dating for the photograph itself. So far these seem like mostly vacation photos that were taken in the 1960s and 1970s. I've identified places in Italy, France, Mexico, and Hawaii so far.

The first photo was processed in August 1966 and was probably taken in Mexico. The part of the sign I can make out on the building says 'Los Gallos' which translates to 'The Rooster'. Los Gallos seems to be a popular name for Mexican restaurants so perhaps that is what this is.

The second photo was also processed in August 1966 and also probably taken in Mexico. I can only make out part of the writing on this building (part is cut off), however, with some help from Google translate I'm guessing it says something like 'School of Fine Arts'.

The third photo was processed in September 1966 and was taken in Mexico. Google images helped me identify the colorful building in the distance as Central University City Campus of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM).

The last photo was processed in July 1975. It was likely taken in Hawaii. It has the same date stamp as other photos from Hawaii though there is nothing specific in this photo I can identify.

That's pretty cool, finding old pictures at Goodwill. I bet you find some interesting stuff in those! I can't imagine someone tossing out their Hawaii pictures, I bet the kids just gave everything away.

I think this kind of stuff typically comes from estate sales (or the leftovers anyway). I guess there's nobody left that wants them...or maybe they just didn't know what to do with them.

It's a shame, someone's memories like that should be kept by family. The sad truth is once your gone you can be just be forgotten....
