Vintage Photos - Oestreicher (1637-1640)

See the previous post in this series here.

I made some impulse buys after getting a new scanner and picked up a huge batch of slides a while back. These pictures span from as early as the late 1940s to as late as the early 1990s. These were from Goodwill and eBay (sometimes via estate sales). There are many thousands of these slides. I will be scanning some from time to time and posting them here for posterity.

This set continues a large batch of slides that originally came from an estate sale and appear to have belonged to a locally well known photographer from the Spokane Washington area named Leo Oestreicher, or perhaps a friend or family member of his. These slides contain some landscape and portrait photos but also a lot of typical snapshot photos. Here's an article on him from 1997 which is the only info I have found on him: http://www.spokesman.com/stories/1997/jan/04/photos-of-a-lifetime-museum-acquisition-of-leo/

These slides are not labeled or dated but I believe they were taken in the late 1950s or early 1960s in Mexico. The first photo is of a shack but there isn't much to indicate where it was taken. The second photo appears to have been taken from the air. The writing on the wall near the lower right-hand quadrant appears to say "Gran Teocalli" or something like that along with an arrow (presumably pointing the way). The only reference I could find to that exact phrase was to a restaurant in Mexico that opened in 1963. It is located in Teotihuacan which is the site of a number of Mesoamerican pyramids. The next two photos would seem to back that up as they are of such pyramids. I'm guessing the third photo is probably the "Pyramid of the Moon" and the fourth photo was probably taken somewhere along the "Avenue of the Dead".

All of these photos are posted here with my scanner's best effort to clean them up with color restoration and Digital ICE as they were pretty badly faded.

The entire collection that has been scanned and uploaded so far can also be found here. This also includes higher resolution versions and versions with post processing.
