Dragon's Revenge is a pinball video game that is a follow-up to Dragon's Fury to which I have posted about before. It was developed by Tengen and released for the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive in 1993.

Pinball video games are great and fun time killers. The gameplay is very easy to learn and it all depends mostly on luck and game physics to make the ball go through were you want it to be. This one was not as memorable as the previous game. But it still is worth your gaming time.

The Story

Here's a pinball game that goes beyond your wildest dreams! Good graphics and nice animation will power you through as you destroy countless monsters. Survive those deadly bonus stages and score points. Can you defeat the evil witch or will the Dragon have its revenge?

The Graphics and Sound

The graphics are okay in this game. No problems there in distinguishing between what things are, which is quite a problem in some games. Most of the time it is not that good, but sometimes they look fine.

The music is quite catchy with no problems, but sometimes the sounds get pretty annoying. Sometimes the dragon lady moans too much, or whenever the ball hits some monsters, they make funny sounds.

The Gameplay

Your goal is to beat as many mini pinball games as possible. In the overhead screen, if you destroy every monster in a section and enter the place where the monsters emerge, you get to enter a mini-pinball game where you hit monsters with your balls in order to lock a character. Whenever you unlock a character, you can get more balls on future mini games.

The gameplay gets pretty hard at times. But do not worry, you got plenty of chances to score lives either by scoring points, beating a mini game or by matching up colored gems.

There is a 2-player mode, but it is not worth it mainly because you take turns playing whenever the other dies, which can be done anyway with just damn one player. There are also many other extra things like destroying a big crystal and other goals.

Replay value is pretty good. You may want to beat your own high scores.

My Verdict

Dragon's Revenge's gameplay is the best part of the game and should be with all video games. In this game, you can really care less about the story because the gameplay does not promote the story that much. It is a good game to enjoy your pinball gaming fix and could be a nice addition to your Sega Genesis game collection.

Get this for the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive console or play it on a good emulator if you dig pinball video games.

Let's keep on gaming in the free world!
