My Played Video Games Review: Top Gear for the Super Nintendo

Top Gear is a racing video game for the Super Nintendo/Super Famicom. It was published by Japanese video game developer, Kemco, and developed by British software developer, Gremlin Graphics, in 1992.

This was the first racing game on the system I really enjoyed. Its main title theme song is very memorable and timeless.

The Story

It is the damn race of your life. Race for the championship of the world. And only your race rival stands in your way. Chase each other around 32 tricky racetracks. Choose your car carefully for speed. handling and power.

This is exciting split-screen racing at its best, and it takes all your skill, courage, and quick timing to stay on the road. Just go for the nitro. There's only room in the winner's circle for one winner.

The Graphics and Sound

Though there is no slowdown, the graphics themselves, rather look simple. There is barely anything to them. The environments are grainy, however, smooth the racetracks may be, I guess that is just due to the hardware limitations and whatever.

The sound effects aren't all that good, mainly because all you hear are tires screeching, or the engines, or the nitro boost. But the music is a whole better. Though there are only 4 music tracks, you'll find yourself likely humming or tapping to the beat of them all within a few hours of playing the game. They're that catchy, and that good.

The Gameplay

It is kind of like the other arcade racers. You will race on different tracks in different races. After each race, you gain points that help place you and decide if you are going to move on to the next bracket.

But this game adds some new things. At the beginning of the game, you select one or two players, name yourself, choose the automatic or manual transmission, your control scheme, and your race car. You have a choice between four cars. Each one with varying traction speeds and gas mileage.

At the beginning of each race, you are given three nitro boosts. The use of a limited amount of gas in this game is what makes it cool. You may have to pit during the race and using your nitros burns more gas. In single-player mode, you race against 18 dumb cars and one smart car. In two-player mode, it is the same except the other player takes the place of the smart car.

Replay value is good. This will never be boring and you will return to it sometime, especially in two-player mode.

My Verdict

Top Gear is a pretty decent game. It is a serious racer that can crave your need for an old-school racing sim. You will like this game if you are looking for a more serious retro racing game, or just in the mood to race.

Play it on the Super Nintendo/Super Famicom or play it on a good emulator. Play it with a good friend for some racing fun.

Let's keep on gaming in the free world!

This game is a classic of motorsport, I still accuse to say that the games of this generation Gran Turismo, GT Racing, Horizon Chase and others are bases that harvested from this source, very good post.
