Is fear our master?

Lately, I've started to face many of my fears, which got me thinking.
Have you ever wondered if fears control our lives? A vast field for the earthly "Hunger Games." Come to think of it; this is already a reality.

War

Historically, people's fears of war controlled their actions and lives. The panic that the world around us sends to our subconscious. The fear that today he will be called up by the army, and now is the last moment you see him. Families have run far away, hiding their children of fear not to lose them.

Others feared running out of food and greedily attacked shops, strangers' homes, and hospitals. We fear politics and wars, but what we should fear is ourselves. We do not know what our ancestors experienced or what kind of fear they felt. This lack of knowledge makes us sit idly behind our TVs until the problem comes to us.

Fear of death

You might think this post is pretty bleak, but that's the reality. Every fear leads to this. The worst fear of all. The fear of death. Why is it the scariest?
It changes a person. Yes, every fear changes us, but this one can cost us our entire future.

Reflecting on what is happening around us or after losing a loved one, we realize that time is not as long as we hope. It flows, and we do nothing meaningful with our lives. We see how the loved ones around us grow old and disappear, and we know that the final hour will soon come.

Thanatophobia can make us forget even our family. Caught up in fear, we forget the here and now and think only of what lies ahead. However, the more we think about it, the more it becomes a reality. Not knowing what awaits us beyond is terrifying.

In such situations, it is suitable for a person to find refuge in faith and family or surround himself with his closest friends. Only in this way will they realize that what is waiting for us there is not essential, but what is waiting for us here is—the memories we make our legacy.

Newborns's fear

From a young age, fears indeed control our lives. We are born and begin to crawl, but we are too afraid to stand up and find balance. We get up, we fall, and again fear takes over. Many parents make a mistake in such situations.

They panic, run immediately to see if the child is okay, and instill additional terror in his still fragile subconscious, which in most cases can stop his attempts for quite a long time. So don't panic, be calm around the child, and it will surprise you when you least expect it. We don't decide when they will walk; they choose when they feel confident. You have to see it for yourself. The feeling is fantastic, and you will never forget it. I will always remember my little boy's first steps.

He was afraid to get up because he kept falling, and his grandmothers would rush in, panicked. And one day, he did it. While playing in the other room, he came to the bedroom and brought me my phone - I was so proud of him!

Let our children not grow up in a terrible world. Together we can make it better. It is our destiny to
suffer from the past, to long for the future, but to forget the present.

You're spot on my friend :)

Fear of death is the big one... and I think all the others are linked to this one?

You overcome this one and everything else seems pretty ordinary and much less scary

I appreciate your comment.
Yes, it is probably the main one, but it is also the only fear that cannot be overcome. It is always with us. Someday though, when man's curiosity about the otherworld is satisfied, then the human race will have conquered it. What's beyond, that's where this fear really comes from.

You're right. It's the not knowing isn't it :)

It can be overcome but it needs to be sat with every day until that happens and most people just can't do it... but it is possible ;)

Here and now is what's important and when the time comes - to greet dead as old friend (can't remember from which book this quote was) 😂🙂

I think my fear is being stuck inside a cardboard box, while someone takes photos of my face in fear of being stuck inside a cardboard box... while... well... you get the idea!

Fear of death might be an evolutionary concept.
In early days of humanity those without fear of death would quickly die. They had less chance to procreate but those with fear survived because of it and were able to reproduce and pass along that fear.

The problem in modern society is that many fears human kind developed over thousands of years are suddenly "unnecessary".

But you picked out some nice examples, war being currently on everyone's mind, fear of death will always be necessary for survival and new borns developing fear will always be part of life.

Well done :-)

Didn't know that!

new borns developing fear will always be part of life.

Yes, they fear the slightest thing. Many children, however, face the fear of death from a very young age when they lose a parent. 😔

Thank you for the tip, much appreciated.

Imagine early humans, barely talking, almost no tools, living in the forest/caves. No fear of death means when you see a wild animal or "dangerous" ground (which now might cause fear of death in us) you don't recognize the danger because fear is needed for that. So the human most likely will get killed in that situation.
But those who fear the dangerous animal or the signs of a deep swamp will stay away from it because of the fear and live another day and have the chance to raise offspring and pass along that fear.

That last point accidentally was a nice tangent to your other point, fear of new borns. And we come to a full circle. 😉

I love that you say that many fears are suddenly unnecessary. You know Franklyn D. Rooseveldt said

the only thing we have to fear is … fear itself — nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror which paralyzes needed efforts to convert retreat into advance.source

If we focus on our Faith I am convinced that we can reduce fear in the very many ways in which it manifests in our lives. So we should only fear allowing fear to control our every action as we live out each day. !ALIVE

OH, that is very nice to know. I came across that quote in a few movies but never knew it's an original Roosevelt. And looking at the source it totally makes sense. 1933 was right in the beginning of one of history's darkest chapters and it was motivated by fear as it is today.
People are manipulated and lied to into doing things out of fear. Only those who are aware of this can resist it. That's why it is so important to know about the past so we may learn from it and not do the same mistakes again. And here again we are at the point that true freedom and peace requires the absence or at least awareness of our fears and their sources.

Yes, every fear changes us,

They make us more coward sometimes and restrict us from trying the same stuff the next time. Even I would conclude that with each passing minute we grow a new fear. And we keep on concealing it until one day it becomes a ghost haha.

Thanatophobia heard about it for the first time, I guess behind each fear there is an unsloved mystery. Thanks for dropping it in Dreemport.

Yes, and sometimes they even prevent us from being ourselves or finding our destiny. A lot of people here are writers, a slight fear of criticism can squander their talent and chance to evolve.

Your post on fear may have sounded bleak in the beginning but it certainly turned around beautifully as you wrote about your son and his first steps.

It's true that fear can stop you in your tracks. But, I like to think of fear as the energy I feel when I have reached the boundaries of my "comfort" zone. It lets me know that if I continue forward, I will grow. If I don't, I won't. In this way, fear can become a friend and I am at the place of choice.

I came here from Dreemport. 💛

Yes, the fears are very dark. Sometimes they even reveal everything we hide deep inside. Every comment I get from you is like, a beautiful sunrise, I appreciate it! And thanks for sharing your story. Not everyone can boast that though and say fear is their friend. Some give in completely to fear, which leads to a violation of the immune system and mental health.

Yes, psychological fear linked to the fight or flight response is definitely bad for one's health. It has been linked as one of the main factors in cardiovascular disease because it impacts the metabolic rate to an inappropriately high level.

Aren't most of the fears psychological based? Many people go to therapists who reprogram their brains. And voila no fears or so they think.

Some fears are physiologically based. They're the ones where there is an immediate and literal danger to the person. For example, a woman might experience fear of the night when walking alone. This fear may never be realised but then again, it is possible that the object of the fear materialises. One is psychological, while the other is physiological. Both impact the flight or fight process but only one is metabolically appropriate.

We need fear to keep us safe but, in our society, it has gone into overdrive.
