Camping and Canadians
If you live in Canada, then chances are you go camping every summer, and if you really are into it, then ice fishing in the winter is the ticket (personally I have never gone ice fishing, but would love to give it a try sometime. I bet @lacking ice fishes). It would be un-Canadian to not camp. We are currently at an undisclosed location somewhere in Western Canada. Guess where? Anyways, probably next to impossible to guess where we are. My favourite part about the whole experience is the campfire. Hands down. Secondly, the Lake experience is also really superb, especially when the weather cooperates. One thing I don’t like about camping is the mosquitoes, but those little pests can be handled with some proper bug spray. Where do you like to go camping?

The largest mosquitos that I have seen where in Banff. I have spend a large part of my life at the tropical regions, where mosquitos are a plague, however they are much smaller than those from Alberta.
Need some serious bug spray to take care of them.
I have never gone ice fishing, nor do I have any desire to do so. For me, the appeal of fishing lies in spending time outdoors in nature, enjoying the peacefulness of the lake or river. But I can certainly see the appeal of ice fishing for some people. There must be something magical about standing on a frozen lake, surrounded by nothing but snow and ice, waiting for a fish to bite.
I detect a bit of sarcasm in that last sentence. I am much more of a summer sportsman than a winter one. For sure.
Mosquitos don't bother me. I must not taste good. They annoy me a little when they buzz me, but, don't bite.
I Love camping and just got back from beach camping which is pretty cool and different from the normal kind. I went to Maine last year for a couple of days, and really not as much as normal. But, that is about to change. :)
I like the cooler weather camping and have even gone in the winter once. Just once.
The first shot is warming. I love campfires.
And Marshmallows. :)
Ok, so hotdogs or hamburgers when camping? Or veggie something?
Sometimes. Or beef stew or soups prepared at home and warmed over a nice fire... Skillet dinners. fish, foil wrapped seat and veggies...love campfire cooking.
Hmmmm...my mouth is watering already...
What do you cook when camping for a few days?
Mainly hotdogs, and ramen noodles. I bring along the usual staples from home though too, like hard boiled eggs and mixed nuts. Creature of habit. I can live on eggs and nuts actually!
I bet you are in Waskawhat.
How did you know I was in Waskawhat?
It is interesting to see the green and lush trees, it must be very refreshing.
Indeed, very refreshing getting out of the urban areas.
I haven't done much ice fishing up here, but it does look like fun. The Inuit do a lot of netting over the deep winter, but come spring it's time to head to the lakes for some jigging action!
Someone else mentioned before,
And I ask, what makes the snow and ice a less peaceful and natural experience? 😄
It would only be the temperature, but honestly, in the end, as long as I'm dressed properly no problem.
I like fishing, but you would have to pay me to go ice fishing! From my cozy bedroom window, I watch the guys out here freezing and fishing on the coldest day of the year and think they have to be nuts!
I would be nuts enough to try it, along with a seasoned pro assisting me along the way..
