Descension
All good things must come to an end. What goes up, eventually comes down (in most cases). After my ascension to the Rae glacier hike summit, it was time to get back to reality and descend. Now up until recently, I was that guy who didn't use trekking poles, because “I have strong legs so I don’t need em” was my train of thinking. Well, after experiencing a bit of knee pain a few years back, I decided to do some research. I always wondered why I saw all ages of hikers using trekking poles. Why do some teenagers even use trekking poles, I wondered. So after watching multiple YouTube videos on the merits of using trekking poles, I was finally convinced, and purchased my first pair. That was three years ago, and I haven’t looked back since! If you don't use trekking poles, stop what you are doing and go out and buy some right now, trust me, you. Won’t regret it! Photos taken on the descension hiking trail of Rae glacier, Kananaskis country, Alberta.

Awesome shots again and again. Love it. I have three sets, used them a lot but now I go this camera and big telephoto lens, I have left them behind. For now at least but will definitely need them again one day.
That’s the only issue lugging camera around, backpack and using trekking poles. Not ideal, but worth it.
Trekking poles are awesome!
Walking with a backpack over a long period of time always gave me backpain in the lower area. Used them in Greece and felt like my posture overall was way better, and no pain at all.
Most be a real relive when having knee pain!

Both colored and B&W photos look great 👍 I agree, trekking poles I think is very helpful, at least to me, after snatching out my sister's poles. I'm young and crazy and strong lol, but it helped me a lot especially to the most thrilling pathways and making ways when we are in the wilderness and there's no trail we see. What are you guys waiting for, grab one now and enjoy the thrilled trails 😉

Trekking poles do look dope. Perhaps I'll save up for a set too in due course too. Though before that, I need to actually do some proper hikes lol. I'd be out there a lot more tbh.. if it wasn't for the safety aspect. South Africa is a rough place in that regard (i.e. criminal element). Awesome pics mate. Especially liked that little glacial waterfall.

Yeah, trekking poles are nice. I do believe the poles only functioned well to correct balance failure. Yeah, maybe I'm wrong but using correctly is also important. I watched videos of poles collapse under load going downhills.

Yes, you want to make sure to have good quality poles, and not the cheap ones. I think that would make a big difference. Thanks from dropping by.

I saw plenty of Norwegians using trekking poles during my time in Norway. I was asking myself pretty much the same thing back then.
Poles are definitely the ticket. Only wish I had started in my teens.
You must do a lot of walking to get these photos... I like seeing the water too...
I won't hike without them, they can be helpful in so many situations! Makes the experience much more pleasurable. I know a guy who nearly stepped on a rattlesnake and used his pole to distract the snake to move away!

You are a "space finder" @daveks friend, you have learned to use relief, lights, colors and other elements of the environment to make your landscape photos majestically eloquent!... And also the close details that you usually photograph denote an unequivocal accurate instinct to shoot where it should...
By the way, friend, I see your photos and I have the feeling that there is a severe thaw there, I can almost "hear" how the heat is higher than usual in those places whose photos amaze us...
Here we have had a year of "unimaginably high" temperatures, I suppose something similar happens there... eh?.
In any case, it is a daily pleasure to appreciate your photographic work... It is an "open window" to the wonderful Alberta's natural landscape... THANKS!
