Framing Vs Colour

So I wrestled with which photo to lead with in today’s post. A photo with some nice colour, but not the best framing, versus a photo with not the best colour, but better framing. I asked around the house to vote for their favourite , and it came to a split decision. I had to make an executive decision. The one with the “nice” colour won out. Did I make the correct decision? Photos taken on a smokey day at Moraine Lake, Banff National Park, Alberta.

Yep,yep, good executive choice, love the color photo. Could it be that blue green water that adds so much.

For me, usually colours wins at the end of the day.

That is some nice color but I think I like the black and whites better. Maybe it's the smoke, that always seems to pop better in b&w.

Did you just hand off your fires to Quebec or is it still burning good in your neck of the woods?

It seems that the more severe forest fires have shifted to eastern Canada. These pics here were captured last fall actually. Hoping to see clear skies when I go out in July, fingers crossed.

Well... Personally, I can't decide... Both photos are a spectacle to be admired!, but based on the thesis of selecting "the one with the greatest visual impact", it seems to me that you have correctly selected that exquisite first-place photo... Anyway, they are beautiful images and the third photo (the cutout on the rock formation) looks delicious in black and white!
