Pets ‘N Trails

Often times, while out and about on the hiking trail, you see hikers with their pets. It does appear that our furry friends can attract the bigger, more ferocious, and furrier wildlife. The kind we don’t really want to encounter on the trail. Think bears. Personally I don’t really have a problem with it, as I do have my finger on the bear spray trigger at all times. Nonetheless, I would not like to encounter one. From a far yes, up close No. Up until now, I have never had to deploy any bear to protect myself. I am blessed to have experienced years of safe outdoor adventures! How about you, have you had any wildlife encounters? Do share.

These shots are perfection, man I love them trees at this time of year, I agree with you why its your favorite time. I was close to a mountain lion once while out on a hike and have seen bears off in the distance, all before my camera was back in my hands.
I sure wouldn't want to see a mountain lion...dang..good thing you made it out in one piece!

A good query....no..I really have not encountered any dangerous wildlife of the larger sort...a few deer sometimes.

Beautiful larch trees! Pets won't usually attract bigger animals when they are around people. Most bears avoid people, but always wise to have that bear spray ready. I know a fellow who was hunting and had a bear sneak up on him to make him dinner, he didn't have bear spray. He did have a .45 which saved his life!
Any which way, the fewer the encounters the better. Did he put the bear down or just scared it away with a bang?
Put a bullet in it's head at five feet away. Fortunately it did the job. I have heard stories of bullets bouncing off on a bears thick skull!
