Roadside Rock Views

Sometimes the best photo ops are found just off the highway shoulder. Like this one. Located somewhere near Waterfowl Lakes, Banff Park, Alberta. The slit or notch in the middle comes across as somewhat unusual. How did it happen? Was it carved by glacial ice melt some many years back? Or did part of it just crumble down after an earthquake? I do not know. I suppose a geologist could possibly shed some light on these questions. What do you think?

It is a good question, especially considering how level both sides are... I guess nature rocks!

This one looks natural as far as I know.

I think the dent in the middle might be as a result of change, maybe some sort of reaction that led to the dent being formed in the middle, it's more of a natural occurrence and the dent was probably a reaction I guess

What an impressive sight, that is really a very strange landmark in the landscape, it seems that it is a vertical fault of the local relief and then it suffered erosion for many years... Be that as it may... It is lovely to observe! .. Quite a geological curiosity!... Thank you very much for sharing @daveks friend!!!...

I would have to agree that some of the best shots are the ones on the shoulder of the road. Would be interesting to see what the picture from the top down would look like!
