Long covid also affects vaccinated people

Vaccination does not prevent Long Covid symptoms. This is what emerged from a study conducted in the United States and published last May 25 in Nature medicine.

Using the health data provided by the national databases of the United States Department of Veterans, the researchers built an audience of about 33,940 cases of "breakthrough infection", i.e. vaccinated people who contracted the virus anyway, in the period between January and October 2021.
The researchers showed that six months after infection, after the first 30 days of illness, vaccinated people who had had Covid showed a high risk of death and the onset of Long Covid symptoms, including cardiovascular problems, blood clotting. gastrointestinal, renal, mental, metabolic, musculoskeletal and neurological problems. These symptoms are also reported in many cases of post-vaccination adverse events.

Therefore, if vaccination would seem to prevent at least severe forms and death from Covid, on the other hand, the researchers found no differences between vaccinated and unvaccinated when it came to the onset of neurological problems, gastrointestinal symptoms, kidney failure and other conditions.

It was disappointing. I was hoping to see vaccines offer more protection.

The study in question is considered to be one of the largest peer reviewed long covid analyzes performed in the United States, based on the medical records of patients who at the time were believed to be fully vaccinated: that is, with two doses of Moderna or Pfizer Biontech vaccine or one dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. However, the impact of booster doses has not been assessed and the reference period does not include the time when the Omicron variant became dominant. Another relatively negative point concerns the audience analyzed: the population of the veterans department is largely made up of men and only 8-10% are women.
