Going to Penang has always been a big question mark in terms of traffic. Since St.Anne church is in the mainland, we decided to stay in the island, so we’re against traffic in the morning.

Going into the church require passing by a small township. It’s a good idea to plan accordingly, otherwise reaching here at the high noon is going to be one sauna trip.

On the side has a huge tent selling candles and flower for the church goer to purchase. I must say, impressed by them for not overly priced these item.

The country is a relatively ”young” country in terms of Catholic calendar. Therefore, churches like this with more than a century old is consider preserved historical building.

Just for a quick info as Malaya has been colonised by multiple European countries. Therefore having a foreign Fr is very normal back in the days.

Sorry if it’s off topic, but I’ve always been thinking how these miracle worker feels when their remain got buried within the church building and everyone actually stepping on their grave stone. If they’re dead, they have no feelings, why keep their dead body in the church?

During the feast of St.Anne in July, they will remove all the long chairs, put a new sheet of vinyl flooring in order to protect the floor from being scratched by tourists and church goer.

As I have mentioned from my previous post regarding the wall of holy water, it seems they have elevated the barrier, to avoid people from putting their feet there. Good thing is, they don't giveaway free bottles anymore, that really deter people from abusing the plastic bottles.

I particularly like this huge stone besides of the old church, where they lay the 10 commandments. I’m glad this time they took the time to refresh the wordings instead of couple of years back when I saw ”Raj was here”.

At the back of the church is the famous St.Anne hill, where many miracle had claimed happening here. Many church goes came to pray and lay their wish.

One thing to highlight. Burning candle is no longer allowed. You may still light the candle, but you’ll have to put it out immediately right after the prayer. I don’t really understand the mechanism, but burning candles used to be one of my favourite activities going to the St.Anne hill.

After the hill and prayer, we proceed to go to the new church. They have upgraded the facility, and now has air condition. We're a little late when we finally got back to the church and we missed the morning mass.

On final note, this is one of my favourite shot of the day. I really like that she concentrate on her prayer and the background is clean... except there’s many asses sitting by the edge on the other side.

(Edited)

I thought you were Catholic but then I read your older post and found out you weren't. It's interesting how you also participate in a saint's feast.

By the way, David (or is it Davids? or Bob? 😅). You're from Kuala Lumpur, right? I'll be visiting Malaysia next week, maybe we'd bump into each other? Hahaha.

Originally David, as in King David from the Bible. But then as I grow older, I got fatter and my face become squarish. And therefore, I've become more sponge Bob than David.

How can I find you in discord? We may need to exchange contact number so we can make the meet up happen 😃
