A photo review from RedMi Note 8 Pro and RedMi 10 5G

Today's topic is about an idiot who dropped the phone on the floor, as a result in multiple visit to the repair shops, finally got a new phone that he wasn't really satisfied with. And later the previous phone repaired and finally we get to take some pictures side by side whilst going for a morning walk at the near by community park.

Here's a glimpse of the two phones. The phone that I've been using since 2020 February, is RedMi Note 8 Pro. The one on the right is my latest addition, RedMi 10 5G literally for free. There's a very long history about how I got this new phone for free, but let's get to it. Most of these photos has a watermark at the lower left corner, so we can see the difference. These pictures are taken auto(AI), low quality, 4:3 screen.

Note 8 Pro10 5G

Had I not load this up on an LCD screen at the computer, I could have just discarded the one on the right. Clearly there's so much more detail to the picture on the right, despite the picture on the left has a wider angle. I have rated the left better when I took the picture and view it from my phone screen.

Note 8 Pro10 5G

This one, my right finger hit the shutter, but my left finger missed. So I had to retake, by the time I retook the picture, I think I moved a little. As a result, picture on the left distorted a little. Once again, the one on the left seem to be bluer, the one on the right seem to be warmer. At this point of time, I'm convinced I got conned by the display at the phone screen.

Note 8 Pro10 5G

I had to purposely turn back to take a photo of that small dot between the buildings, as I'm pretty darn sure the phone camera couldn't capture that great when a big object is distorting the moon. Once again, I have high regards on the left picture when I was checking on the photographs in the phones. I'm aware the left side is a little "bend", may be because I have a strap on the left phone and I'm taking it with "over" confident. Trust me, I've done parallel shooting at my best like an idiot pointing two phones when other jogger concentrating on their footwork.

Note 8 Pro10 5G

The doggie probably saying: WTF is wrong with this hooman. Woof. This photo is also blowing my mind to the max. There's a very strong sun light from the left, therefore the lens itself is actually glaring at the same time. I expect the phone on the left do worse, but they're equally good. The right phone has a little bit of advantage due to the angle and partly blocked by the left phone, but I will leave you be the judge(before the pack started chasing me)

Note 8 Pro10 5G

The temple by the slope, next to a protestant church. For some reason, this temple is there to block the way between the church and the public car park. From here, we can clearly see the left phone handle low light way better, and the color is vivid. However, the sky become over exposure.

Note 8 Pro10 5G

Pointing the lens towards the sun, I believe this will disturb the auto focus. I'm no professional when come to photography, but I did read somewhere pointing the lens direct to the sun light, and then start counting how many red dots inside the picture, that will help to decide how much reflection the lens itself can generate. Clearly, both have one small red dot, but I guess that's acceptance.

Note 8 Pro10 5G

This is the junction going up hill, which I normally like to take a photo of the giant mansion by the hill side. The left side is taken with 9:16 and wide angle lens. The one on the right is taken with 9:16 normal lens, but cinematic frame cut out. It become quite impossible for me to turn my arms side way and still reaches my thumbs to hit the shutter at the same time. There's no way we can compare which one is better as the phone on the right only has 2 camera lens, and not included wide angle lens.

Note 8 Pro10 5G

One last parallel shot indoor, back to 4:3 screen. With the limited space and many objects, this can explain why even parallel photo shooting can't do the justification. The left phone has a camera lens at the middle. The right phone has a camera on the left side(right mirror).

Summary

Initially I was so worried that the new phone done less with only 2 camera lens where the old phone has 4, after this photo session and comparison, I think I should start letting go of some of the convenient the old phone can do. For what the new phone doesn't have, we will just have to live with it, like the wide angle lens. Some of the game is not compatible too. I'd like to play with my usual CSR racing game, but I guess I'll just have to stick to the old phone a little longer. Other than that, the dual app(clone app) doesn't work on the new phone. The telco service contract is 2 years, may be I'll get another phone by then? Or, may be I've already fell in love with this phone and forget about changing.

RedMi 10 5G seems to have a clearer camera

It seems to be like that. The biggest challenge now is, speed. That 10 5G is so slow, most of the photographs I need to stand very still to avoid flicker.

New phone appears to take slightly better pictures, but not enough to stand out to me. Getting it for free though is a perfect reason to upgrade and get used to the new phone. I am accustomed to the home button my iPhone, but I know mine is the last generation to have one, so someday I'll have to adjust to just having a screen.

Thanks for stopping by. The major difference being the display. The old phone display looks 1000x better than the new phone. Therefore when taking pictures, the preview on screen made me think I've taken a good shot.

The "new phone",usually sluggish on turning up the camera app. I need to point, touch the screen to "auto" adjust the focus, press the "shutter", wait 2 seconds whilst the lights being captured by the sensor, and finally get the photo out from the display 🙄 now I know what AF means in camera term.
