叉烧杨BBQ char siew house

Sorry if i have to use my own face as thumbnail, i need that face to tell you how serious this food blog post is about. Chinese traditional food has been known with its heavy taste and coloration.

Despite the Chinese tradition doesn't practice outdoor camp fire BBQ, but we do embrace the char grill method of preparing meat dishes, meat bathing with sweet sauce with pinch of sweet and salty sensation.

Char Siew Yoong mark one of those super long standing traditional BBQ house that still operate until today in Kuala Lumpur. Restaurant situated at one of those old shops in down town Kuala Lumpur previously known as Peel Road. Now, some sultan renamed the place andbi cant even remember what's the new name is. Those skyscrapers behind the restaurant shows the big contrast of how modern development continue to soar despite this restaurant refused to move to modern malls.

Since its downtown Kuala Lumpur, lunch hour is expected to be extremely crowded. At its peak, queue can go up to hours, extending customers standing under hot sun just to have a 10 minutes lunch there.

Fortunately, the good old restaurant has been slightly modernized with air condition. Otherwise, i cant imagine how can i eat without melting my face. Seats are seriously limited, given these shops were built in the early 70s, no one would expect people from skyscrapers came down and queue for a humble BBQ rice.

Roast meat, BBQ meat are all hung in the glass cabinet. Avoid touching the glass surface as you wouldn't know how hot the glass is, since the heating bulb shinning on the meat to keep them warm. As we are queuing up for our table, the staff keep bringing new cut of meat from the kitchen. Oh trust me, this is how the traditional BBQ house function. Chopping and serving plate after another plate of roast meat is a form of attraction. Only the best will dare to do this kind of show. Within an hour, all these meat will be gone!

After waited for about 30 minutes, finally our turn to sit down. Since were 10 pax, getting a big table to accommodate everyone proven to be tough. Next time we know, we sit and order separately. That way it become cheaper and we can easily spread across the restaurant for individual seating place. It didnt take long for them to serve.

BBQ pork belly came with a bowl of chinese BBQ sauce. Traditionally, the sauce is a combination of dark soy sauce, brown sugar and some other secret ingredient these well known shop may blend in. Generally, those 2 things are the main ingredients. Roasted pork belly is extremely crunchy as well, believe to be marinated with Chinese 5 spice powder.

The bill though, can be extremely painful if you're not prepared for it. We, already know this is going to be crazy lunch, equally dividing 350 bucks with 10 persons, isn't really that big of a deal. But then again, its not an everyday thing, so everyone are happy with with what they can "experience" with this old school BBQ shop.

Here are my colleagues give an "approved" face to all the good food served.

Kuala Lumpur being the most dense populated place in the entire country, it is expected to be crowded at famous eatery/tourist spot.

Been to many states in Malaysia, also tried the ones in Hong Kong and China, I think Kuala Lumpur makes better BBQ than any other I've tried before.
