Ipoh new town is just as excited

Ipoh is one of the oldest mining town(now city) in Malaysia. It is famous with street art and graffiti, good food and it's old town. However, this photo was shoot in new town yo 🤣

You see, the old town now become too famous and has become seriously overrated and overly crowded by tourists. New town, which is across the Kinta river offer just as much old back alleys that has outgrown trees from buildings.

One of the significant restaurant many failed to noticed, is actually a this restaurant Haji Yahya. Back in my school days, I was shock to found they fried chicken skin and use the frying oil to make their noodle. Extremely tasty and old school.

Not far from the halal street hawker, is the cultural street of Ipoh. I myself found it's has very little to do with actual culture, but more of a food street. The old yellow Lou Wong bean sprout chicken and many cookies shops are all here.
clh8mc0hb008e22szet61cemy_IMG_20230430_114126.webp
The most famous Happy Mountain soy bean is here and has long queue during its operating hours. Me as a locale, grown up here, they don't really mean much to me. Also park 1 street ahead, ample of parking space there.
clh8mc07x0091ayszajoheddh_IMG_20230430_114748.webp
And we take our soy bean drink and soft bean curd the next street where there's only local sitting in and enjoy our food without having to rush with the tourists.
clh8mch450086a8szhm3b3naq_IMG_20230430_120335.webp
The famous Pak Kong chicken rice shop is also walking distance. So near we decided must pack for my parents since they haven't been enjoying this kind of old taste for a very long time.
clh8mch8e008l5uszf944gudq_IMG_20230430_120307.webp
You see, not only you need to wait for your seat, even take away needed a number before you can start ordering. Once again, this is Ipoh. Business owners are arrogant. You can't tell them your orders unless being asked upon 🤣
clh8mcxmj008c50sz3ol5g1qf_IMG_20230430_144432.webp
After patiently waited for an hour, and witnessing some other patron come and get offended and go, we the good customers finally got our food 🤣 The bill came to RM48. That's $11 with today's exchange rate. For 6 person lunch.

And the white cut chicken(白斩鸡) sorry I had to direct translate it. It means steamed chicken (white), cut chicken does not require explanation, truly live cooked up to its standard. The last I had this was 30 years ago.

When all the tourists is rushing their way into the concubine lane in Ipoh old town, let me show you around some of the less crowded, local price tag, and seriously underrated place.

I grew up in this small mining town(now a city) and very proud of our food culture, and also our infamous arrogant behaviour 🤣 I mean not everyone an asshole here, but majority of the people I know, the business owner I know, the hawker food operator I know, are arrogant 🤣 they(we) drive slow, but we can't let other people pass us, or it will be seen as a rolling start challenge. When there's more then 3 cars waiting inline at the traffic stops, that's traffic jam 🤣 there are many more behaviour here are annoying funny, but we live we learn.

I just can't help it, and can't get enough opportunity to introduce the "locale" perspective of Ipoh since I'm now a half tourist. What can I say, I've been out of town for decades now, and everytime when I return to my home town, I will be saying "these Ipoh fellas" and then realized I am one of "them" 🤣

When I first came to Korea I noticed some American expats calling Koreans "foreigners". It's really a matter of point of view and perspective. The Korean countryside is overly developed to the point that it is becoming one metropolitan area.

Years ago I met a friend from "Malaysia" and had no idea where he was from. I just assumed he was Chinese. After talking with him for a while I realized he was not Chinese but more like a Westerner in many ways. Since then I have thought about visiting or living in Malaysia but the opportunity never came. Still my sons and I sometimes roam through google maps satellite pictures of Malaysia and say, "Wow. There are a lot of open spaces there!"

Thanks for sharing your hometown visit. This is a cool one.

Thanks buddy. It's actually the Daegu here, in the middle of nowhere 🤣 Malaysia is not really big, but it's quite comfortable to live with due to low density. Do ping me if you really have an opportunity to visit. I will take you out for a food tour.

talking about the old city of Ipoh seems endless and I am very impressed with the history and culinary delights of this city a

It is important as a historical city due to Ipoh being one of the important mining town back in the old days. Next time I will try to find Indonesian food around and write about it 🤣

Yeah. They're We're probably some of the most arrogant citizens of the country. I didn't even know how self centered I was until I moved to Kuala Lumpur 🤣

Do let me know if you have plans to visit. I'll be your part time tour guide FOC.

While I know it is a different city those images brought back memories I have of Penang. Unfortunately I don't have many great memories of that place because for many years I was basically forced to go there 4 times a year in order to renew my Thai visa. I do remember one thing that I enjoyed though and that was the great variety of food. To this day I think the best Indian food in the world is made in Malaysia.

Well, I thank you as a Malaysian, and thank you on behalf of my Indian fellow citizens. I can't tell if our Indian food is the best, since I haven't been to India 🤣 but if you do come for a holiday or casual visit, ping me and standby for a crazy food tour.

Will do! To be honest I don't see myself ever intentionally going to Malaysia again since I was forced to do it so frequently for around 10 years. It's not my favorite place because they charge too much for beer :)

That's due to the "entertainment" tax. Authorities are Muslims bound, therefore the beer and cigarettes tax is usually 300%. Go to duty free zone. I was in Langkawi for 4 days, and the only liquid I didn't drink was plain water, because it's more expensive then beer 🤣

I've heard that about Langkawi. All those times that I was forced to go to Penang I should have mixed it up a time or two and gone there instead. I've heard really great things about it.

Thanks buddy. I grew up there, so I already know their trade. That entire town does not give good service, but they do offer good food.

Hey, remember what I told you, you can work independently, offer your driver service to people you know, you must be very kind, or better not talk hahaha, the idea is that people look for you so that you can transfer them to another place, several people per this neighborhood works on this and earns very well
