St. Thomas Church Kuantan

It was the exact same evening we visited the Blue Mosque, before we head back to the hotel, we decided to visit St.Thomas Church, not only to take photo of the building, but also trying to figure out the time for morning mass so we can attend the following morning.

The church was established in 1906, I didn't further study if this is the oldest church in Pahang, the internet search engine will be very confusing as mixed churches of the Anglicans will also be included in the search results. Therefore, I will just take anything before I was born as old enough. Anything pre world war is consider super historical, and is a must visit.

Looking at the building, I'm pretty darn sure this is not the original chapel. Strongly disbelief this kind of design occur before the 70s. On the right side is the office and parishioners home.

Some of these old church will have this special altar for St.Mary statue with lighting at dark, makes it very photo genic.

We didn't really go down and walk around the buildings because it was already late, and it was still drizzling outside. After we found out the morning mass time, we continue to drove to the office block and there's statue of St. Thomas there.

After that, we drove back to the hotel and we actually took the opportunity to explore the elevator foyer area on each floor 🤣 magically, found a sweet spot to take this night view photo. A similar photo I have used for thumbnail on the first post of this series, that was night mode, and this is the normal mode. To

Fast forward to the next morning we went for morning mass at St Thomas church. You don't need the detail of what happened the night before at the hotel room. If I tell you nothing happened, we're just asleep, will you believe me? Ofcourse not, we did ate a ton of junk food and watch TV 🤣 what else do you expect me to tell you 🤣🤣🤣

After the morning mass, we'd stayed back a little and take photos around. I wish I have more to show you, but I made a huge mistake by having my phone under the air conditioning duct whole night, and I had my phone in my butt cheek the whole morning mass. When I looked back of my photos, much of them have are blurred vision due to fog built up in the lens.

I have a chance to talk to one of the very old sister and she was talking about how the young generations moved out from the town. Not surprise because my immediate superior at my work, is also origin from Kuantan.

Which is no wonder I only saw elderly going for the morning mass. I do believe the younger generation prefer to sleep more and go to work. By the time sun is up, everybody has gone and left us taking a photo of an empty church building again.

Hotel Cathayana

Is an extended building from a row of shop houses, at the corner lot. It's a very basic 3 star hotel, and that explain it's quite affordable despite its strategically located at the middle of Kuantan Town.

We paid RM370 for 2 nights stay, and that included 2 breakfasts for 2. Room is very clean and there's no cigarettes smell. Bed is super soft, perhaps a little too soft for my liking, as I'm having a backache woke up the 2nd day. Sorry I didn't document the room as it was very normal, and I messed it up soon as I arrived.

Breakfast is at the ground floor next to the reception. It's an open area and there's enough space for roller skating. Food range is limited, but I enjoyed every single bit of it.

I started with a small bowl of congee and some watermelon. Not that I'm trying to diet during a trip, but I doesn't feel too good eating the heavy stuff since we had to of junk food the night before.

After the warm up of congee, immediate came the real breakfast with a huge portion of scramble egg, baked beans and also a stack of sausages.

I think I totally screwed up with my portion, after I finished the huge plate of western style, I'm also 7/10, but there's still fried flat noodle and curry chicken. So I said, screw calories count!

Before I finished my fried flat noodle, suddenly the hotel waiter brought a huge plate of fresh papaya out from the kitchen. Well then, it's fruit. Who can complain eating fruit can hurt?

The plan was to get out of the hotel as soon as we finished the breakkie, but we ate too damn much and we need a short walk to ease the stomach a little bit.

By the time we finished a short walk around the hotel vicinity early in the morning, it's time to visit the throne of symphony. Whilst home minister doing her business, I was at the window started taking pictures of the outside. Not much of a view, but seeing government offices across is still consider amazing.

These lights are the main attraction because the city you live in is a very nice city and of course at night the streets will certainly be more interesting to go to your place of worship.

No I don't live here. I'm having a 3 days short visit to a city at the east coast of peninsular Malaysia.

Between your junk food hit and an almighty breakfast I bet the throne of symphony was well played. I don't follow any religion but I do enjoy seeing the beautiful architecture of churches

The hotel throne doesn't have a brush 🤣 I need to drink enough fluid during the day to make sure melody played smooth, to avoid stuck key 🤣

I missed breakfast this morning, didn't know what was gonna be presented at the end of this post, there is no end to the amount of toast and beans I could eat right now, but I'm currently in the tuk-tuk engaging and waiting for the kids to get out of school.

Your anniversary trip has been epic, don't know why I get giddy at the thought of hotel breakfast buffets. It's been many years since I've gone wild at one, but on the odd occasion I find myself in a hotel nice enough to offer these services, I will fast the night before to see how much I can eat 😁.

Reminds me of when I was a kid and my parents would take me to a buffet restaurant. In the parking lot always came the pep talk before going in, "Kids, let's make sure we get our money's worth tonight," basically a warning to eat like is an apocalypse.

It's hard to imagine, when I was a kid, I'm the skinny guy who can barely feed a piece of toast, until I turned 11. After a small appendices removal procedure, it changed my appetite, turned me into a chunkinator. My dad advise is similar, but the Chinese goes with assess the value of the food first. Beware of sausages and luncheon meat, those are the nice to eat but cheap meat. Always wait for the prawns and fishes as seafood is way more expensive than chicken and beef. Don't touch the dessert unless absolutely can't put in one more shrimp, we can find ways to stuff in another bowl of ice cream 🤣
