El teatro quedó oscuro, ya que las luces no regresaron, pero la música seguía allí y no venía del piano, venía algo mucho más cerca y el sonido cada vez más fuerte. Faye se tapó los oídos, sin embargo, seguía escuchando cada nota y cada nota era perfecta. Mientras que un pulso ajeno marcaba el ritmo.

Nile seguía sin responder, hasta que su respiración cambio, Faye retrocedió muy asustada y pisó los vidrios del espejo y esta vez ya no era un simple crujido, ahora cada pedazo vibraba dando inicio a una melodía. Faye primero se vio de pie, luego se vio girando, seguidamente gritando. Todo volvió a cambiar porque en uno de los trozos estaba lo que había estado detrás de Nile, pero ahora mucho más claro, una sonrisa y en ese momento Faye dejó de respirar del susto.

It was coming from somewhere much closer, and the sound was getting louder and louder. Faye covered her ears, yet she could still hear every note, and every note was perfect. Meanwhile, a foreign pulse set the rhythm.

Nile still didn’t respond, until his breathing changed. Faye backed away, terrified, and stepped on the shards of the mirror. This time it wasn’t just a simple crunch; now every piece vibrated, beginning a melody. Seconds later, a light appeared, but it wasn’t from the stage—it was from the shards of glass.

The smaller pieces began to glow, and the larger ones showed reflections—but not of the present—and that drew even more attention. Faye first saw herself standing, then spinning, and then screaming. Everything changed again because in one of the shards was what had been behind Nile, but now much clearer: a smile. And in that moment, Faye stopped breathing from the shock.

Nile pudo moverse, donde medio logro preguntarle algo, pero su voz era distinta. Faye volvió a retroceder y una vez más la música cambió, mostrando una melodía completa como si tuviera una vida completa tocando. Con esa melodía nueva, los pedazos de vidrio más grande se elevaron y todos se notaba que la figura ahora estaba detrás de Faye.

Ella sintió un aire frío en detrás de su nuca, cerró los ojos y allí entendió que no la estaban persiguiendo, si no la estaba afinando. Faye reaccionó y corrió hacia el piano vacío, pero las teclas seguían hundidas y con toda su fuerza golpeó las teclas, que hizo que todo se detuviera.

Había silencio y Nile cayó de rodillas, como si lo hubieran soltado. La luz regresó con fuerza y una sola tecla se presionó, ambos se quedaron quietos. En ese instante entendieron que no se trataba de aprender a tocar, se trataba de encontrar la forma correcta de hacerlo.

Nile managed to move, and she almost managed to ask him something, but his voice sounded different. Faye stepped back again, and once more the music changed, revealing a complete melody as if it were playing with a life of its own. With that new melody, the larger shards of glass rose up, and it became clear to everyone that the figure was now behind Faye.

She felt a cold breeze on the back of her neck, closed her eyes, and there she understood that it wasn’t chasing her, but rather tuning her. Faye reacted and ran toward the empty piano, but the keys remained sunken, and with all her strength she struck the keys, which made everything stop.

There was silence, and Nile fell to his knees, as if he’d been released. The light returned with a burst, and a single key was pressed; both of them stood still. In that moment, they understood that it wasn’t about learning to play—it was about finding the right way to do it.

En el reflejo de uno de los pedazos de vidrio, la figura finalmente alzó algo parecido a una mano y la posó sobre el hombro de Faye. Nile was breathing normally, and Faye was alone in front of the stage—until a note sounded, just like the first note she’d heard upon arriving at the theater.
