I have been wanting to share with you our cherry tomatoes for a few days. As I am now living in the city for study and work, I have no land to plant. A few months ago I planted some tomatoes in pots on the roof of the house to see if I could grow them and with the incredible surprise of seeing them reddish clumps of fruit I decided to create this story. It's early in the morning and Fulano starts his chores by sneaking into the corners of the house with a silent walk. I'm still in bed, but I know his routines well, so I'm going to stay here for a while longer to give him privacy; he doesn't like me watching him, he says I'm bossing him around too much. Anyway, there is no other way for him to do his business, I don't know if you understand me?
It turns out that today the tomato trees that I have planted on the roof of the house in Marianao are full of red cherries, ready to pick. Fulano goes ahead and gets them. He knows a lot about the crop. He examines them calmly, knows the exact color, the size, and even the smell they should have so that when consumed they have a fresh texture and the sweetest flavor.

With determination, he goes through each of the five tomato plants, picking out the ones that are ready. He manages with daring maneuvers to climb up and down the bushes with the load on top without leaving any damage in his path. Once the task is completed, he arranges the tomatillos in the basket of the bicycle that, according to him, he borrowed from the shelf on the terrace. Yes, because that's the other one! In addition to taking from my food, he seizes every object he can find to suit him.

The basket holds plenty of fruit, so he doesn't have to go back to the kitchen to carry everything he has gathered. Once settled, he sets off on a long journey.

It is a big harvest today and Fulano can hardly bear the weight, although he has strong limbs he finds it hard to carry out the route. In a desperate attempt to maneuver the bike to exert more force on the pedals, he stands up on them and with the weight of his whole body begins to pedal without the aid of the seat. His feet firmly supported govern the sway of his gait, which is under the influence of the alternating rise and fall of his legs; with the only support provided by his hands on the rudder. When he advances with greater speed on the cement and thinks that everything is under control, in the blink of an eye, he loses the perfect balance that must be achieved to maintain this maneuver and falls to the ground.

It was to be expected, I, who watch him with my eyes open, could see it coming. Of course, I didn't warn him! Sometimes we have to live through things to learn them well, every blow we take can only make us stronger. Lying on the ground, with the bike overturned and the tomatoes rolling like those who wanted to escape, I only see on his face an expression of laughter that hides behind a small gesture of pain. With a blow to his knee he gets up and picks up his harvest, puts it back in his basket and continues on his way. Farm work is like that, it has its ups and downs. You have to face all kinds of falls, climatic phenomena, pests, etc., and Fulano knows this for sure.
