Hello friends, today I want to talk about one of the many books that helped me in my grief process and that I reread a month ago.
Hola amigos, hoy quiero hablar de uno de los tantos libros que me ayudaron en mi proceso de duelo y que releí hace un mes.
Paula is a suspense novel, written by the Chilean Isabel Allende, this book was recommended to me by a friend and it is a story of many feelings and pain, where the mother who is the same author of the book tells about the disease and when her daughter Paula goes into a coma and dies, through the reading of this book I could feel part of the pain she felt because I was going through this same pain and I know what a mother can feel when she suffers the agony and death of a child. Paula is a book that the author wrote as a kind of catharsis to forget the pain she felt when she saw her daughter die.
Paula es una novela de suspenso, escrita por la chilena Isabel Allende, este libro me lo recomendó una amiga y es una historia de muchos sentimientos y dolor, donde la madre que es la misma autora del libro cuenta sobre la enfermedad y cuando su hija Paula entra en coma y muere, a través de la lectura de este libro pude sentir parte del dolor que ella sentía porque yo estaba pasando por este mismo dolor y sé lo que puede sentir una madre cuando sufre la agonía y la muerte de un hijo. Paula es un libro que la autora hizo por una especie de catarsis para olvidar el dolor que sintió por ver morir a su hija.
Paula is a book told on two different levels, first she talks about the development of her illness and her stay in the hospital and when she was taken to her mother Isabel Allende's house and on the other hand she tells the whole story of the Allende family, Paula's own story; also, she tells the story about the dictatorship in Chile and life in exile.
Paula es un libro contado en dos niveles diferentes, primero habla del desarrollo de su enfermedad y su estancia en el hospital y cuando fue llevada a la casa de su madre Isabel Allende y por otro lado cuenta toda la historia de la familia Allende , la propia historia de Paula; también, cuenta la historia sobre la dictadura en Chile y la vida en el exilio.
This book is very intimate and personal of this writer because in it she tells the story of her whole family and obviously her tragic story of her daughter Paula, a girl of about 28 years old who suffers from a disease called porphyria (A set of hereditary diseases) after being diagnosed is taken to the hospital where she is treated by the family and her mother, Isabel Allende decides to make a series of manuscripts related to her illness and also with the life of her family, her grandparents, her parents and even her intimate life. She did it with the intention of compiling everything she could of her daily life to be able to tell her daughter Paula about it when she woke up because she did not know if she would have memory at the moment she decided to wake up from the coma.
Este libro es muy íntimo y personal de esta escritora porque en él cuenta la historia de toda su familia y obviamente su trágica historia de su hija Paula, una chica de unos 28 años que sufre una enfermedad llamada porfiria (Un conjunto de enfermedades hereditarias) después de ser diagnosticada es llevada al hospital donde es atendida por la familia y su madre, Isabel Allende decide hacer una serie de manuscritos relacionados con su enfermedad y también con la vida de su familia, sus abuelos, sus padres e incluso su vida íntima. Lo hizo con la intención de recopilar todo lo que pudiera de su vida cotidiana para poder contárselo a su hija Paula cuando despertara porque no sabía si tendría memoria en el momento en que decidiera despertar del coma.
The narrative of this wonderful book has an intensity that combines with the family perspective (her husband, grandparents, siblings, others) and also tells the whole political process in Chile. Paula's story was left for eternity because through all those letters written by her mother it is later compiled and decided to be put in a book, carrying this story that transcends over others in a positive message. One sentence that struck me from this book was this "I knew that misfortune would touch me someday but I never thought it would be through one of my children."
La narración de este maravillosos libro tiene una intensidad que se combina con la perspectiva familiar (su marido, abuelos, hermanos, otros) y también cuenta todo el proceso político en Chile. La historia de Paula quedó para la eternidad porque a través de todas esas cartas que escribe su madre después se recopila y se decide poner en un libro, llevando esta historia que trasciende por sobre otras en un mensaje positivo. Una frase que me impactó de este libro fue esta "Sabía que la desgracia me tocaría algún día pero nunca pensé que sería a través de uno de mis hijos."
This book shows us that each person is unique and everyone lives their grief in their own way and we know that although death is part of the evolutionary process of life, no one is prepared to receive this painful news. Paula's death is and will be a story of affirmation that everyone needs in their life, it also tells us to take care of ourselves and be close to our family giving love, support and lots of happiness.
Este libro nos muestra que cada persona es única y cada uno vive su duelo a su manera y sabemos que aunque la muerte forma parte del proceso evolutivo de la vida, nadie está preparado para recibir esta dolorosa noticia. La muerte de Paula es y será una historia de afirmación que todo el mundo necesita en su vida, también nos dice que nos cuidemos y estemos cerca de nuestra familia dando amor, apoyo y mucha felicidad.
I liked the book very much and I dare to recommend it to all those who need to value life and everything they have, for readers who love books with sad story and for those people who live the pain of losing their child, this is a realistic book without a happy ending.
El libro me gustó mucho y me atrevo a recomendarlo a todos aquellos que necesitan valorar la vida y todo lo que tienen, para los lectores que aman los libros con historia triste y para aquellas personas que viven el dolor de perder a su hijo, este es un libro realista sin final feliz.
