Three Tune Tuesday ・80s Radio Standards

Greetings and salutations Hivers. Today let's go into another Evening Groove / Three Tune Tuesday post.

As always, thanks to @ablaze for making this series. Lots of people participate in it! Follow the tags to find a ton of good music recommendation.

I've mentioned the main radio station that I great up listening to before. It was 94.7 FM "Q95" out of Indianapolis. I'd listen to Bob & Tom in the morning and when driving to school then listen to Mad Dog and his music block on my way to my after-school job. Mad Dog was probably your typical DJ for a soft rock station in that he played mostly 70s and 80s rock and tended to repeat the same song often. Sometimes when I listen to a song that he used to play I find myself expecting the next song to be one he would also often play. So for today I thought we'd pick three hits that you would almost be guaranteed to hear daily when listening to him.

George Thorogood & The Destroyers - Bad To The Bone

Mad Dog loved this early 80s hit and would play it constantly. He wasn't the only one: it also appeared on MTV often back in the day. It actually didn't do well upon release, not charting at all, but it has since gone on to be one of the more commonly heard songs of the 80s.

Eric Clapton - Cocaine

Clapton didn't actually write this song. It was originally written and recorded in 1976 by J.J. Cale. Clapton covered it the next year and it has since gone on to be associated with him. He has always claimed that despite the lyrics, it is actually an anti-drug song. But due to the fact that no one believes him, he didn't often perform it at concerts. See what you think.

John Mellencamp - Pink Houses

Being from Indiana, Mellencamp is practically worshipped and his entire catalog used to be played more or less all the time. The fact that he is very liberal and isn't shy about giving his opinions may have lessened support for him in a red state in recent years, I'm not sure. But at least when I was a kid, his songs were everywhere. Either this one or Jack and Diane may have been the most common.

There we go. Common radio hits from back in the day. So what's your favorite?

Three solid choices although I’m personally not a John Cougar fan.

I love all three! Bad to the Bone is kickass! I always liked Clapton's Cocaine, but I never saw it as anti-cocaine either... Mellencamp was a nice finish. Those were fun to listen to, great picks!
