(Edited)

Ever wanted to improve your chess to the next level, here's the workshop series to help make you a better player. Although the road to chess mastery constitutes hard work, effort, long hours of practicing and analyzing thousands of positions throughout, I'll make sure to keep it as easy for you, as possible.

Having worked on my chess recently, gaining 100 points in the process, I wanted to share the joy of the game with hivers as well. Here I present my weekly chess workshops:

Structure of the Workshop:

It will include sections on:

1. Opening:

Every week an opening of hivers' choice will be analyzed. A well-researched collection of opening lines from various resources (books, chess databases, recent trends) will be filtered for maximum educational value.

“Play the opening like a book, the middlegame like a magician, and the endgame like a machine.” – Rudolph Spielmann

As evident, I'll try to cover the theory as well as practical approach to the opening. It'll be illustrated with examples from master games.

2. Middlegame:

There are numerous middlegame themes to be studied for years but most instructive and enjoyable themes will be presented.
Themes would include:

  • Effective Planning
“Even a poor plan is better than no plan at all.” – Mikhail Chigorin

  • Strategic and Tactical Manoeuvres
“Tactics is knowing what to do when there is something to do; strategy is knowing what to do when there is nothing to do.” – Savielly Tartakower
  • Calculations
“Half the variations which are calculated in a tournament game turn out to be completely superfluous. Unfortunately, no one knows in advance which half.” – Jan Timman

3. Endgame:

Endgame is one of the most ignored area for chess improvement but this has a vital role in ones winning chances. After all, you get to an endgame with an advantage and you don't know how to convert it. So it becomes vital to play it with good technique.

“After a bad opening, there is hope for the middle game. After a bad middle game, there is hope for the endgame. But once you are in the endgame, the moment of truth has arrived.” – Edmar Mednis

Few points:

  • All positions will be chosen based on their educational value.
  • For you convenience, I'll link position on lichess.org for better experience.
  • My analysis can contain errors, so any suggestion and/or criticism is highly accepted.
  • You are highly encouraged to participate and ask for specific opening, middlegame theme and/or endgame positions in comments.
  • Workshops will be published from next Wednesday onwards weekly.
Thanks for Reading, Voting and Commenting!
