I traveled to the city of Maracay at the end of November to do some Christmas shopping. In Venezuela, the Christmas season starts in October, when some gaita songs are played everywhere, and ends in early February. It'd be noted that here in my country the gaita is not a musical instrument but a genre that we usually listen to only at this time of the year.

Viajé a la ciudad de Maracay a finales de noviembre para hacer algunas compras navideñas. En Venezuela la temporada navideña comienza en octubre, cuando se tocan las primeras gaitas en todas partes, y termina a principios de febrero. Cabe destacar que aquí en mi país las gaitas no son un instrumento musical sino un tipo de música que solemos escuchar sólo en esta época del año.

Maracay is one hour away from the city where I live. For this reason, we decided to get up very early to get ready and also to have breakfast. The idea of this trip was not sightseeing but Christmas shopping and this usually takes a lot of time and is also very tiring. We wanted to be back before nightfall, so we had to be well organized and not waste time.

Maracay está a una hora de la ciudad donde vivo. Por esta razón, decidimos levantarnos muy temprano para prepararnos y también para desayunar. La idea de este viaje no era hacer turismo sino hacer compras navideñas y esto suele llevar mucho tiempo y además es muy cansado. Queríamos estar de vuelta antes de que cayera la noche, así que teníamos que organizarnos bien y no perder tiempo.

The first thing we did was go to Traki, a nationwide chain of stores where you can buy just about everything from cleaning supplies to clothing, household items, shoes, stationery, and toys. These stores were the first to accept Bitcoin payments, which caused a national stir as at the time cryptocurrencies in the country were practically a taboo subject. I don't know if they still accept cryptocurrency payments.

Lo primero que hicimos fue ir a Traki, una cadena de tiendas de ámbito nacional en la que se puede comprar prácticamente de todo, desde artículos de limpieza hasta ropa, artículos para el hogar, zapatos, artículos de papelería y juguetes. Estas tiendas fueron las primeras en aceptar pagos con Bitcoin, lo que causó un gran revuelo nacional, ya que en aquel momento las criptodivisas en el país eran prácticamente un tema tabú. No sé si todavía aceptan pagos con criptodivisas.

Then we went to the Galeria Plaza shopping mall to see the Christmas decorations and also to look for a restaurant to have lunch. From the parking lot, you could see much of the city. I didn't take pictures of it because I am afraid of heights so I couldn't tolerate being too close to the walls.

Luego fuimos al centro comercial Galeria Plaza para ver la decoración navideña y también para buscar un restaurante para comer. Desde el aparcamiento se podía ver gran parte de la ciudad. No tomé fotos porque tengo miedo a las alturas, así que no podía tolerar estar demasiado cerca de las paredes.

After lunch we decided to visit a mall I had never been to before, we went to Los Aviadores. An acquaintance of mine worked there and told us that there was a Christmas fair that day. We arrived there around 3 pm, the sky was clear and it was very hot in the parking lot. At the entrance there was a long hallway with stores on both sides and in the center airplanes on display, there were also Christmas decorations everywhere and a big Christmas tree. This tree was much bigger than the previous one.

Después de comer decidimos visitar un centro comercial en el que nunca había estado, fuimos a Los Aviadores. Una conocida mía trabajaba allí y nos dijo que ese día había una feria navideña. Llegamos allí sobre las 3 de la tarde, el cielo estaba despejado y hacía mucho calor en el aparcamiento. En la entrada había un largo pasillo con tiendas en ambos lados y en el centro aviones expuestos, también había adornos navideños por todas partes y un gran árbol de Navidad. Este árbol era mucho más grande que el anterior.

At the Christmas fair, there were lots of great businesses, from well-known national brands to emerging artisanal and artistic products. There was even a huge stage where a fashion show with national and international brands was being held. We found a photo booth where some Disney characters were available for people to take pictures with them.

En la feria de Navidad había un montón de grandes negocios, desde marcas nacionales conocidas hasta productos artesanales y artísticos emergentes. Incluso había un enorme escenario donde se celebraba un desfile de moda con marcas nacionales e internacionales. Encontramos un fotomatón donde algunos personajes de Disney estaban disponibles para que la gente se hiciera fotos con ellos.

We came back home before dark and also managed to buy several things, especially clothes and some household items. It was a good trip and we enjoyed it very much.

Llegamos a casa antes de que anocheciera y también conseguimos comprar varias cosas, sobre todo ropa y algunos artículos para el hogar. Fue un buen viaje y lo disfrutamos mucho.
