A MARKET STORY: RAIN DIDN'T STOP MY FABRIC SHOPPING AT WUSE MARKET
Hey lovelies ❤️
It's your favorite girl @debbie-ese 😍
Welcome to my blog 🤗

Do you know those days when the weather tricks you into believing it will be a sunny day all through but it later turn to a full wet day? Yes, that was exactly how yesterday turned out to be. I would have appreciated the rain more if I was in my workspace or on my bed and not enroute to a market (of all places in a rain).

The thing is that for some weeks, the rain has barely showed up which made me begin to conclude that the rainy season was gradually coming to an end and that the dusty harmattan season will soon start. But, I was wrong because the way I was drenched in the rain yesterday ehn.
Okay, let's do it like this. Let me take you back to the beginning and give you the full gist.

So, I had planned a trip to Wuse Market, here in Abuja for Thursday and I have been anticipating the trip for days. There is a store in the market that does weekly sales of high-quality fabrics at discounted prices. So, I wasn't going to miss it.
In a bid to be one of the first set of buyers that will be on ground as they are offloading their goods, I left the house as early as 7am. First, I dropped off my son at school and started heading to the market. Through out this time when I was still in my neighbourhood, the weather looked bright, so I it didn't even cross my mind to pick my umbrella. (That's a terrible omission).

When I was halfway in the trip, the weather started to change and just like that the sky started getting dark. In a twinkle of an eye what started as a light drizzle metamorposed into an intense downpour. So, after some minutes of driving we got to the last bus stop (Berger Bus stop - for people conversant with the City) where I'm supposed to take another cab that will take me to the market. So, I had to run in the heavy rain to stay at the small shed-like point at the bus stop that has some kind of concrete bench and a plastic roof.

We were so much in that small space that it looked like we were sardines in a can. As expected every single one of us was drenched and the rain kept hitting us and splashing sand to our footwears but it was better than staying directly under the rain. To make the difficult situation more difficult, a man under the same shed started smoking and puffing the smokes into our faces. It made the environment uncomfortable for me and many others who begin to leave the place one after the other. No one could caution him due to his looks and all. Again, I dashed out under the heavy rain to a nearby filling station where there was a bigger shed.
I waited there for another 15 minutes or thereabout scanning the road for a cab to continue my trip. But i discovered that the number of public transportation on the road was less and it is mostly because they don't have a functional wiper or they have bad windscreens that will hinder their vision to drive. Eventually, I was lucky to get a cab that dropped me at one of the gates of the market under the rain with my dress soaked.

I had to quickly find my way to the fabric stores and surprisingly business was going on. In my mind I was like they won't start bringing out their fabrics until the rain stop. But the scenery I met was a busy market place. There is a company that manages about five different shops on the same line and each shop stocks different grades of ankara fabrics in terms of price and quality ranging from ₦1,800 ($1.20) upwards.
I started looking for beautiful patterns one row after the other, touching and feeling the texture and quality. I was able to select about fifteen different fabrics from three of the stores. The other two stores are for expensive fabrics and it is not in my plan as I want fabrics that can be easily sold. It wasn't easy to make those choices because of the varieties of fabrics that were available but I was able to select some with bold prints and vibrant colours, and of course good quality.

I made the payment and it was time to head back home and the rain is still pouring heavily even after noon. I found my way to the next bus stop, exhausted and wet but in my mind I was happy it was a fulfilled day. I can't wait to turn the fabrics into stunning outfits and share them with you.
Thanks for reading and see you in my next one.
