Trust you are having a great day so far? It's been a great one here too. Sometimes last week I shared with you all that I resigned from my job to build a brand for myself in the Fashion Industry. I pointed out that I will be taking up about three months training to refresh my knowledge on sourcing, production and the new trends in the industry. It has been a while since I last did full time business in the field so I may be a bit rusty. This is the reason it is important to serve as an apprentice under someone who has been active and knowledgeable in the business.

I started the training session on Tuesday, this was the first working day of the year in Nigeria. Monday, 2nd of January was a day off for the celebration of the New Year. I have been enjoying the process so far and thankfully I have a very nice "madam", that is my boss. She has been giving me heads up on what is expected of a fashion designer in order to stay in business for a long time. There are so many people into the same line of business, so it is important to standout for people to notice my services.

She made me understand that for a person of my class and status, who is educated and have worked in the corporate world for some years, I must never settle for less. She said I should be able to standout from other people by branding my fashion house, products and make people see the need to come back and do business with me.

I'm trying as much as I can to adapt to the new conditions and the environment of the training. The first thing someone told me when I told her that I wanted to enroll for a fashion training for some months is that am I sure I will be able to cope with the tradition of learning a trade. In Nigeria, there are some traditions that you do not have a choice but to follow irrespective of your age, class or status. These include sweeping of the workshop before the start of business in the morning and at the close of work in the evening. This mostly done in order of seniority. That is, the apprentices that got there before me are my senior colleagues and they have the right to boss me around.

Well, I know what I want and I have my reasons for signing up for the training. I have also undergone the process before but it was earlier in life after I graduated from Secondary school. There's no form of obstacle that will hold me back from achieving my goals. In some months time I will be setting up my fashion house and it would be wrong to lose focus because of trivial issues that won't last forever. Then, in life, humility is key in every aspect of life. It is a humble person that can achieve great things in situations or circumstances where some people feel is difficult.

Thank you for your time lovelies.

Wow, what a wonderful and ambitious goal. Do you plan to create your brand to sell locally, or do you want to make a national, or international brand?

The only thing I wish to see from you is a smile!

Hahaha.... That was my tired face πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚.

I'm creating a brand that will serve both locals and internationals. The world has become a small village with the use of social media. I will showcase my works on social media where people from different parts of the world who love African prints and styles would contact me to work for them.
