MARKET FRIDAY: SHOPPING FOR SOME PLANTAIN
Hey lovelies β€οΈ
It's your favorite girl @debbie-ese π
Welcome to my blog π€
Today is another edition of Market Friday, the first of the year 2022. So, I headed to the market this evening after the close of work to purchase some food items that I will be needing for the weekend. The most important food item I intend to buy is plantain and that is because I have missed it so much.
Why do I miss plantain, you'd wonder? I'm a very big fan of plantain and a week may not pass by without including plantain in my diet. But for about two weeks during the festive season I was in my family house and I do not have absolute control of the menu. Now, I'm back in my apartment and I can decide what to eat and when to eat it.
Meanwhile, I observed something in the market today while I was taking a walk around the stores in the market. I noticed that most of the stores are on lock as I was approaching from the entrance. This translates to the fact that most of the shop owners are not back from their trip to their respective villages.
The festive season is the only time some people have the time to travel out of their town of residence in a year or to even take a break from work. So, they prefer to spend as much time as possible when they travel for the festivities instead of rushing back to the city where they hustle. The closure of most shops meant that there are no plenty choices to make from in terms of purchasing goods.
Plantain is a common food in Nigeria that can be prepared in numerous ways such as boiling, frying, cooking with beans, used to make plantain chips, etc. But my favorite way of enjoying plantain is by frying it and eating it with noodles. It is on rare occasions that I eat noodles without accompanying it with fried plantain. I got to a plantain seller that just got back from the farm where she went to buy from the farmers for sale but she had more of unripe ones which may have to wait till tomorrow or thereabouts before it is ripe and ready for consumption. This woman sells only plantain and it's by products. She peels and sundry some of her plantain to make flour that can be prepared as a Nigerian swallow.
All these plantain that you can see in the pictures from this woman's shop may not last up to 24 hours or maximum of 48 hours before the get sold out. She is a major plantain wholesaler in the market and people troop to her store from different locations to buy plantain.
Some other parts of the market is open where people are going about their business such as selling of tomatoes, pepper, vegetables and the likes.
Whao! Great combination π
I haven't try plantain and noodles though but it sounds tasty π
I enjoy boiled plantain with fried egg and yam π
You need to give it a trial. You will love it
Definitely, I'm gonna try it out π

I love plantains. Fired plantains are my favorite
That's interesting to know @francisaponte25
I love plantains! Fried and powdered sugar on top. :) One of my favorite foods! It is hard when you visit family and have to go back to the herd mentality! But, I have to admit, going home is great! I enjoyed going to the market with you! Thank you for being a part of #MarketFriday! I cannot tell you how pleased I am to see so many participating every week. I have learned so much about the different cultures of the world, especially the small things that go unnoticed except by those looking for it. Life is interesting, wherever you are, whatever you are doing. I hope the New Year finds you healthy and happy, as we all look to prosper in our way of life.
#MarketFriday began as a way to reach out across the globe and learn about different cultures through their markets, especially local markets and farmers markets and eventually branching out and evolving over time from straight shopping to a cultural affair as it highlights how we differ and then again, how much we are alike. We have become a melting pot of culture, but, it is still the Rituals, Festivals, food, architecture, even your language/languages that separate us... Along with the fact of what is these things are normal for us. There are unwritten rules that rule our social behaviors. I see this as allowing for increased tolerance between cultures and nations, and opportunities to come together on an even playing ground. A strong culture can be beneficial to a country as it promotes unity, especially during a crisis, peaceful debate, and open dialogue. I have learned so much about all of you and it has been an amazing experience. I can only hope that learning about each other can help us work together for a peaceful world.
Fridays are all about the #MarketFriday Challenge! Looking to take part in it? Here is how:
Take pictures! Be creative!
5. Drop the link into the MarketFriday comment section so I can find it
7. You must put #MarketFriday by @dswigle somewhere on your post. If you don't and someone reads it, there is nothing to tie #MarketFriday to that post.
As always, please remember! #MarketFriday loves you!
There is something amazing about plantain that makes it a favorite of so many people. It's just so unique.
Of course, it's great to be home and spend time with family except with those exceptions of not being able to choose what you want to eat and have to stick with the general meal prepared for everyone. LOL
Thanks for your comments.
