Diy!! Process of cutting and sewing👗👗cut-together Pleated shoulder bubu gown
Hello hive.

Good day DIY Hub,
Happy New Month to you all. I pray this new month brings growth, success, and greater achievements to your team.
At the same time, my heart goes out to our nation, Nigeria, over the painful situation of terrorist attacks and the kidnapping of innocent children and teachers. It is deeply heartbreaking and calls for urgent attention, prayers, and collective action.
I encourage us all to stay informed, support one another, and continue to stand for peace and safety in our communities. May God protect our nation and bring healing to every affected family.
Wishing DIY Hub a productive and impactful month ahead.
Today I will be sharing with you how I created this simple and classy bubu damask dress.
This is a cut-together bubu gown with:
In-built neckline
Extended sleeve from body
Pleated shoulder design
Fitted from 4 inches above knee downward
Back zipper
Inner rope for waist shaping
Measurements Used
Shoulder: 15 inches (+ 18 inches for sleeve extension)
Underbust (front): 13 inches
Back waist: 15 inches
Full length: as desired
Knee level: mark and go 4 inches above
Full length 56 inches

Cutting Process
Fold your damask fabric into two (front and back together).
Mark the shoulder line:
Measure 15 inches for shoulder.
Add 18 inches outward to form the sleeve (cut together).
IN-BUILT NECKLINE COLLAR
This collar is cut together with the bodice (not separate).
Extend neckline upward by 2”.
Widen neckline slightly (½”).
Redraw new neckline curve blending into shoulder.
Body shaping:
From shoulder down, mark free bubu width.
At 4 inches before knee, start tapering inward.
Shape down to the hem to achieve the fitted look.
Shoulder Pleat Technique (Important)
From center front, mark 5 inches.
Mark another point at 6 inches away.
Fold the 6-inch mark to meet the 5-inch mark.
Pin neatly to form a structured pleat.
Sew a straight stitch from shoulder down to waist level (15 inches).
This creates the elegant draped effect seen on the chest.

Sewing Process

Join shoulders neatly.
Stitch neckline:
use facing for a clean finish.
Sew side seams:
Leave space for sleeve opening.
Follow your tapering line from knee down.
Insert zipper at the back:
Open the back center.
Fix zipper neatly from neckline to hip level.

Inner Rope (Waist Fitting)
Cut a small strip/tunnel inside the dress at waist level.
Insert a rope/string through it.
Position it to align:
Front underbust: 13 inches
Back waist: 15 inches
This allows adjustable fitting without affecting outer design.

Finishing
Hem the sleeves and bottom.
Press the pleats well for a sharp look.
Ensure the fitted lower part is smooth and balanced.
This method gives you the exact structured yet flowing look in the image—loose at the top with a controlled, elegant fit from the knee downward.
