My favorite vegetable to grow - Ladies of Hive Community Contest #81

I like to grow onions. I'm not a farmer, and I don't have much space in my apartment for a garden, but every year I plant a few dozen of them on the balcony outside my bedroom window. The only problem is that I can never get enough of them. So this year I decided to try growing some indoors.

The onion sets came from a local farm. They were supposed to be ready for planting in mid-April, so I had plenty of time to prepare. But when April arrived, it was still cold and rainy outside, and the plants inside weren't doing very well either. Finally, just before the first frost, they started sprouting.

At first, the leaves grew quickly and looked healthy, but after a while, they started wilting. At first, I thought it was because there wasn't enough sunlight, so I moved the pots closer to the window, but that didn't help. In fact, things got worse. One day, I noticed that the roots were starting to rot. It seemed as if something was eating away at them from the inside out. When I checked under the pot, I found that a lot of the soil had been eaten away by worms.

I put the plants back where they were, but then one morning, I woke up to find all the leaves brown and withered. I picked off what remained of the plants, threw them into the trash, and went about my business. A few days later, I bought new onion sets and planted them outside. As soon as the weather warmed up, the plants began to grow again.

The next time I visit my parents' house, I'll bring them some fresh onions. And I'll tell them how I made sure to plant them far away from any worms.

I have a special recipe for spring onions. First you cut them in half lengthwise and wash them thoroughly. Then you fry them with butter and garlic until they're golden brown. Serve them over rice or noodles.

My husband has always loved the taste of fried spring onions. He's such a sweetheart. Sometimes he even cooks them himself. But then, I'm not complaining!

Spring onions are delicious. They're crunchy and have a strong flavor that really stands out. It reminds me of spring. When the weather gets warmer, I like to go outside and eat my lunch while enjoying the sunshine. The fresh air is so nice.

I've been eating these spring onions all winter long, but now it's finally time for the real thing—spring itself. And when spring comes, I'll be able to enjoy the smell of freshly mown grass. There's nothing better than having a picnic on a warm day!

I invite @mari3 to the community. Thanks for reading!

Onions are one of the easiest and fastest plants to grow at home and even in limited spaces. I'm glad your plants are doing well.

I used to use onions in most of my dishes but my older son developed a peculiar gastronomic issue with them, eventually we found he could only now eat onion greens as in Green onions, green part of Leek, and chives.
I miss onions.

When I read the question, the first vegetable that popped in my mind was Onions. Yes it has multiple uses. Though my preference changed later

This post was a breath of fresh air. I love how you took us on your planting journey. I'm sure if you had more space, you’d plant more stuff too.
