Store Closing! Everything Selling Out Fast!

Maybe it's silly of me not to have an ad blocker on my browser, but so it goes. So I end up being exposed to all sorts of stuff, ostensibly based on my browsing habits.

Things that make you go "hmmmm..."

Anyway, the thing that amazes me - because I DO see a lot of ads - is how many of the same ads claiming that some business is "closing down and going bankrupt" I see. And when I say the same ads, I'm talking about the same business, selling the same product lines, going out of business year after year after year.

Here in the US, there are actually laws against saying such things and pretending to be going out of business just to try to drum up business.

In these instances, when you dig a little below the surface of some of these offers, you'll soon enough discover that the businesses are located in some country that clearly doesn't have such laws. And frequently they are located in parts of the world where deception as a business model is just a normal part of everyday life.

The reason I even mention this, is that I once again just came across an ad for company that I also came across before Christmas last, and before the previous Christmas and they're still busy "going out of business" and "everything must sell, now just $2.99!"

It doesn't take but a couple of minutes with the Oracle otherwise known as Google to discover that this isn't actually the original business whose products are being shown, that's going going out of business but a copycat that is set up to "professionally" be going out of business all the time.

A simple Whois lookup will typically reveal that, in fact, this particular seller/store has had their web domain for four and a half days and is located in some undisclosed nation in Southeast Asia somewhere.

I'm not saying that as a slur against anybody, I'm simply stating the facts... this is what I have discovered to hold true whenever I look something like this up.

I guess it bothers me because I know there are a lot of people who aren't quite as suspicious as I am who will look at the ads and think they're getting a great deal, so they will agree to buy something... only to discover that they either end up with a cheap copy in the mail or they get nothing at all.

And when they try to complain about it they just find themselves talking to a blank wall, or being led around in a circle.

So, have I ever fallen for one of those tricky deals?

Once I did, and Mrs. Denmarkguy has a few times... and it was very disappointing. All I can say is "buyer beware!"

Thanks for stopping by and have a great remainder of your week!

Always ask yourself twice if you need those items in the first place. I don't believe you are a compulsory purchaser...

I generally have no interest in them. But if the need to deceive in marketing them exists, should they even exist?

Ads may be very annoying but at the same time, that is one of the ways that those websites make their money and that is why I don't bother to use an adblocker

I just don't like the deception... if you can only sell your stuff when you pretend to be closing shop and going out of business, it can't be much of a product!
