The Mysterious Ways of the Human Brain and Body...

You'd think that being away from something for less than two weeks is no big deal, right?

After all, we "go away" from things to go on holiday, fairly regularly, right?

And then we come back, and resume where we left off.

This combination of being away from our daughter's wedding — which was definitely very distracting — and then being seriously ill with the flu makes me feel like I am almost having to start over, from the beginning.

Normally, I don't tend to allow illnesses to become more than very minor setbacks. But the timing of getting miserably sick on top of being really stressed for quite a while was definitely not my friend. Not saying that as some sort of lament; it's simply a fact.

Maybe the fact that the Cryptosphere took such a massive nosedive in the middle of it all has just added another layer to the slightly surreal feeling of it all.

For the past five days, I have been trying to convince my brain to get a little traction and start working again, at pretty much anything from writing to getting back on top of my eBay game.

It has not been working!

This is the difference between my usual fighting even the slightest sign of getting sick tooth-and-nail every step of the way to simply allowing the illness to run its course, this time.

Maybe I am finally coming to terms with the idea that my days of "being a bad-ass" about feeling a bit under the weather are behind me...

Meanwhile, Tomorrow is Thanksgiving!

For our friends here in the USA, tomorrow will be Thanksgiving...

Illness and a lingering sore throat notwithstanding, there is much to be grateful for!

I did not grow up with "Thanksgiving" in Denmark... that whole experience was new to me, when I arrived in the US in 1981. Which isn't to say that Danes aren't thankful, we just don't have a formal holiday for it.

Gratitude matters!

It matters a lot more — at least to me — than trying to score a "Black Friday" shopping bargain or being part of some surreal festival of overconsumption from now till Christmas.

As such, I am very thankful to have the freedom to observe this day of thanks in whatever way we see fit! I am grateful to have the freedom to largely ignore the commercial; end of it all!

So.. with that thought I am going to wish Happy Thanksgiving to those of you who are celebrating... may you all have a beautiful day!
