TTT - Odd Sounds and TV Drama

And it is that spectacular Tuesday again when I can share some cool songs eating up space in my mind. A big round of applause to @ablaze sir who made this possible. I have saved quite a number of songs from this initiative and used them for appropriate moods. Like Visions in Blue… All-time favourite.

So, while that sinks in, I will share with you some very odd songs. These songs are from significant times in my life. Hope you enjoy it.

Fiona Fung – Proud of You

This song I heard when I was eight. I remember because it was the day my mom bought a DVD cleaner. Songs were attached to the cleaner, which was a disk that had two brushes glued to it, and we would squeeze some of the liquid cleanser onto those brushes then insert and give the disk time to work. I watched the songs with rapt attention and came across a particular one that had its lyrics stuck in my brain years later.

It was not in English I heard it but Cantonese. The version I heard when I was eight was the cover by Joey Yung but I did not realise until today when the song bubbled up and I was humming it. So I sent Google on a search and voila! I found it by Fiona Fung and this one is in English! For the first time, I could understand what I was singing and even sing the words. This song has been on repeat all afternoon!

Xian Lim – Kung Di Sa Iyo

Many of the Gen Z’s who love TV dramas have probably seen Her Mother’s Daughter [Ina Kapatid Anak]. Ahhh! Those where the times we would huddle together and watch Margaux, Celyn, Liam and Ethan. I always had a feeling Celyn and Liam would end up lovers and what do ya know? The bumpkin became a very pretty heiress and of course, hidden feelings surfaced. Stupid pretty boy!

I fell in love with this song at the scene where Liam took Celyn out on the most romantic ever! They danced to the acapella version and as a phoneless child; I reversed the DVD to record that part of the song with the Voice recorder on my mom’s phone. I would listen to it countless times and even sleep with it.

Years later, I’m on my way to the market and I am overtaken by this familiar melody in my head. I quickly send google on a quick search and what do you know? Xian Lim is our Liam! He was the one who sang that song. I love being hit by crazy non-coincidental coincidences like this!

AAA – Dream After Dream

Okay! Upbeat! This was the first ever Japanese song I came across thanks to my first ever boyfriend. He had a unique taste in music. Maybe that was one of the reasons we clicked. I used to think it was an Indian song, which was why some years when I tried searching for it I thought it did not pop up. However, it did. I just thought it was not it when Google came up with the “Japanese” song.

But years later, I send Google to work again and this time, I click on the results and quite alright, IT IS MY FREAKING SONG! Of course, it is very easy for me to be transported to the past; I belted to the song, jumped and danced. Great times this song reminds of.

Bonus Track

Chanyeol X Punch – Stay With Me

Ever since I watched Goblin, this song lived rent free in my head. I used to hear it all over TikTok but was not bothered until I watched the series in which it was the Original Sound Track. Couple that with translating those emotional words to English and you have me right where you want me: unable to forget.

Did my stories bore you? If they did, hopefully the songs did not and if that happened, sorry not sorry. Have a goodnight…
