Gotta pay stupid medical bills

pageBreak.png

With the bills starting to roll in from my accident, I am starting to look around the house for ways to bring in some extra money. So regrettably, I had to list my cinema lenses that I bought a few years ago when I was doing a lot more filming.

The lenses were awesome for what I had used them for. I filmed my first feature length documentary with these. If you are bored and want to watch something for about an hour, you can check it out below.

The 85mm 1.5 is an awesome portrait style lens. It is super sharp and lets in a ton of light.

I am hoping that I won't need to sell off much crypto right now to help pay the bills. I have been talking to my wife a lot about moving out of the US and medical insurance and medical bills are one of the major factors in our decision. It is stupid to pay over $500 each month for medical insurance and then go into a lot of debt when you actually need to use your insurance.

It would be nice to live somewhere that the cost of living is a fraction of what we are having to pay each month. Like my blood thinner medication that costs $500 a month to refill here.

I have been looking at the Philippines a lot more lately and really like how Cebu looks. The cost of living there is really good and there is a strong Hive Community there as well. It would be cool to get to meet a lot of the Hive members from all over the world.

That is one of the greatest things about this blockchain and the community that we have. You can go just about anywhere in the world and be close to another member of the community.

I was telling my wife that we could just spend about 6-12 months in each spot and then travel to another country. There is so much awesome stuff to see in this world and I can't wait to be able to travel it with my wife and make some really great memories and meet cool people.

Hey man I don't know exactly how this health system works in US, but we all know it is expensive...
I can't imagine paying thousands for medical assistance. And I didn't know that you already paying monthly fee.
Interesting idea moving to Cebu. I never focused on Philippines, but guys here on Hive are doing amazing job promoting their home country. Looks like an amazing place. I would love to visit this country one day and maybe be guided from some of the friends here from Hive.
I admire how you could just leave your home and go to Cebu for example. Here in Slovenia people would say I am crazy if I would do that. Different mindset..
Come and live in Slovenia, nice country as well :)

Ya, our health care system is so corrupted here. I would much rather live in a place like Thailand where we would just pay cash for our health care we receive. When my wife and I were there, she got seen by a Dr, got a prescription written and got the medication and it only cost us a few dollars. That would have been a half a day ordeal here in the US and would be a few hundred dollars. I wouldn't mind going to visit Slovenia one day. I want to travel all over the world and see as much of it as I can.

Ya, it sucks, lol. If I don't refill my blood thinner medication, I run the risk of getting more bloodclots and die, so I am essentially paying at least $500 a month to stay alive on top of the $500 a month for insurance that doesn't even cover that medication until I pay about $3000 a year out of pocket for it.

Yikes! Sounds like even if I get off the 'Don't Get Sick' plan things don't get much better. That sucks that you have to sell your lenses, hopefully you can replace them (or get new ones!) soon.

I've never received medical care outside the states but my brother had nothing but good experiences with it in Korea.

Your 6-12 months in a place and then move on sounds about ideal to me. Enough time that you really get a feel for a place and get to experience all its yearly variations but not so much that you get bored. There's nothing like having a new adventure awaiting you to make anything more tolerable!

The good thing is that these lenses have been sitting around gathering dust over the past two years. I have gotten a lot better photography lenses that I have been using in their place, so selling them was going to come eventually.

Healthcare here wasn't too bad before the government got involved with it all. Now everything is way too expensive for those that are working.

I have a monthly injection and a couple of daily medicines that are still not massively expensive, but the price is slowly rising… It’s a damn humantrap that Big Pharma has us in, @derangedvisions.

So sorry you have to sell those beauties.

Yeah, you should visit Cebu, it has beautiful islands that you can hop into and make beautiful photos or maybe offer your images to National Geographic. I was born in Cebu City and I love it there. I already had the whale shark experience in Oslob last year, the one shown in your pic , although not that great images . Some say that feeding the sharks is against its nature, but the sharks are free to swim wherever they like. The sharks are well protected by the government.

You could make great images there as a photographer and the cost of living is not that expensive compared to that in Manila. The locals are nice and the only thing there... is the road traffic since Cebu City is almost crowded... a nice solution would be to rent a flat or B&B near the beaches.

I recently took stock of some camera equipment I had laying around, primarily an EOS Canon DSLR and associated lenses to go with it. I decided I didn't need it anymore, and a few extra bucks in my pocket sounded like a good idea so onto Ebay they went.

Well, what a clusterfuck that was. The lenses and body attracted little interest and in the end sold for very little, I mean not much more than a decent meal for two and a middle to average quality restaurant.

Anyway, moving forward the person never paid. In fact they asked for eight weeks to pay. I said no as I was over the whole scenario.

I ended up giving it all to a friend of mine, for nothing. She was very grateful and that made me happy.

I'm not sure what, if any, relevance this has to your post, maybe just a tenuous link. :)

I hope you manage to raise the fund required, or wanted, and hopefully you don't have to offload too much stuff that you don't really want to part with.

Just with the Cebu thing...Go check out @scubahead's blog, a yank who lives there, or nearby. He might be able to throw some light on it.

P.s. It sounds like the US health insurance thing is as dumb as it is here in Australia.
