Hello, friends especially foodies!

Recently when my three aunts came worldwide, one came from Hong Kong while two others came from United States I would like to bring them outside to have dine out. I don’t want this to be ordinary and common, that they even had ever tasted so I decided to bring them to Remboelan, an unforgettable place where you could find many kind of dished which were Indonesian Homestyle Food. This place is so popular so that we couldn’t reserve any tables before we come, yes if you want to do that it must be a day before your visit.

Remboelan is an old Indonesian language of rembulan, which mean Moon. When we reached Remboelan it was around 1 pm and we needed to be on their waiting list because there were some other customers waiting before us. Two of my aunts looked at their menu book outside while my another aunt had the chair inside of the restaurant’s area.

Here how Remboelan looked from the outside.

As you could see it had some customers outside, plus if you listened to them carefully, mostly came from other countries, so that this restaurant like I said was popular, not only among locals but also for tourists.

When finally we had the table and chairs it was around 30 minutes of waiting and inside their dining area was cozy and classy but it was crowded, so many customers were there. Inside they separated the room for some tables and other areas for some tables too.

For the menu that Remboelan had, it was over 100 menus that we could choose. I really couldn’t imagine how busy was their kitchen. Some of the menu that they offered were

While we were waiting for the dishes to be cooked and served, a waitress offered us some of their traditional appetizers around, like what they offered us that day. They offered taro balls, talam cake, combro and some other appetizers I didn’t familiar with.

Of course we bought an appetizer we offered and I would tell you about it later.

After ordered we were still waiting around 20 minutes to get the dishes ready to served to our table. And here what we had that day

20231007_135010.jpg

Could you guess what we had that day by only seeing the picture of them?

Now let me tell you the taste and flavour of each dish,

First, what we had was Rijstaffel Yellow Rice

20231007_134836.jpg

It was actually yellow turmeric rice served with other dishes like dried tempeh, traditional beef empal, potato fritters, serundeng (coconut shredded floss), sautéed glass noodle, pickles and sliced omelette. For that taste of each dish, dried tempeh had crunchy dried texture with sweet savory flavour, traditional beef empal had soft texture with sweet flavour, potato fritters had savory flavour, serundeng had sweet savory flavour and made from coconut, sautéed glass noodle had savory sweet flavour, pickles had sour sweet flavour while their sliced omelette had light savory flavour. I could say that this menu is rich in spices and was one of the most special menu you should try in Indonesia, especially in this restaurant.

Then, we also had ** Roa Grilled Rice**

20231007_135036.jpg

It was grilled lemongrass fragrance rice, wrapped in Banana leaf, stuffed with spicy smoked roa fish and served with sambal roa. The lemongrass rice was tasty and smelled so good, it had tasty smoked roa fish which had savory spicy flavour to it. And it also served with sambal roa. So you could get the double spiciness there, for me the rice with roa without the sambal was enough, cause it tasted so good, in medium spiciness. For the spicy lover, note this menu, the menu you should try when you come here.

And we had Karangsetra Fried Squid with Crispy Garlic

20231007_135017.jpg

It was deep fried squid topped with house special crispy garlic seasoning. The fried squid had light savory flavour with crispy outside texture but soft squid inside, it won’t made you choked. It was so tasty if it had with their crispy garlic, they blended perfectly into a unique garlic squid savory flavour which you couldn’t ever find in any other places. So yes, I also recommend this menu for you to try!

We also had their Javanese Beef Tongue Traditional Steak

20231007_135020.jpg

Although it called steak (bistik), but actually they stewed the tongue there then served it with potato wedges, carrot, green beans, and thin potato crisp. It also poured with their signature traditional kampoeng sauce. It had sweet savory flavour, the tongue were soft and yes it was also one of their speciality, but I recommended the beef one than this tongue one, cause it was a bit fishy for me, I didn’t like tongue that much.

For the appetizer we had their Corn Fritters served with Sambal Roa Gorontalo

20231007_135014.jpg

The corn fritters were large, it had crispy but soft texture and it had savory pepper spicy flavour. I think this corn fritters were just so so and the special thing was only the size. It would make you full if you had one of it.

And the appetizer I said to you I would tell you, we also bought Combro

20231007_141312.jpg

20231007_141427.jpg

Combro is Indonesian authentic snack which come from West Java. It made from cassava flour and coconut, while for the filling it had oncom which made from leftover from soymilk production or peanut presscake (leftover from peanut oil production). Combro had savory spicy flavour, and for the combro there I don’t recommend it cause it was not tasty as it usually outside.

For the dessert there we had their Abang (Brother) Teler Iced and Indramayu Mango Iced

20231007_143253.jpg

20231007_143313.jpg

Abang Teler Iced contained shredded iced with avocado, jackfruit, jelly, sugar palmfruit, coconut meat, topped with condensed milk. It had tasty fresh flavour of the fruits, served chilled in a hot sunny day. I recommend this menu for you to try.

Indramayu Mango Iced contained shredded iced with young indramayu mango. It was fresh with sweet dominant and a bit sour flavour. It was also so fresh to have in a hot sunny day and I also recommend this menu for you to try.

So when will you try over 100 menus of our Indonesian Homestyle Dishes in this Restaurant?
