I'm learning how to create a Chess tournament in my town!

Chess has long been more relevant than ever, since the pandemic it has seen a growth everywhere with more people playing it online and giving coverage to major tournaments.

Also, in-person tournaments are booming in much of the world, more people wanting to test their skills at the board are attracting more organisers to run these types of tournaments, and I must admit that I am attracted to the idea of organising my own tournaments here in my home town.

So I started to do some research

There is a page called chess results that I used as a reference to find a program that could be used to make the pairings, in this page are published several tournaments but you can also download the program with which you can organize these.

The program is called swiss manager and is quite basic to organize tournaments, it is even established as one of the programs used by FIDE to organize official tournaments, so I think that if I learn to use it I will be fine to organize something casual in my city.

There is a lot to fill in before you can even start adding players, even so I'm learning with some youtube tutorials to know how to operate it, it's not too complex but I still think someone could create a program a little easier to use.

Once you fill in the basic tournament data you can start adding players.

I did a couple of tests to understand how it was going to work, the tutorials I watched on youtube didn't help me much to make any sense of it but still the program looks difficult but in essence it's simple.

It has different panels where you can see the rosters, make matchups and a couple of extra options that come in handy for referees.

I'll probably be doing a more extensive tutorial on the program, there's a lot of stuff to cut through and I haven't seen much information about it on the net so this might be a good topic to talk about on hive, let me know if you're interested.

I also wanted to use this program (which is btw created by an Austrian😄), but I found it way too complicated.
So for season 11 (which was carried out as a double round robin) I had used the free software https://playpass.com/sports-software/league-scheduler for the scheduling

I was trying it out and it's great for tournaments, pity it's online, I need one that I can take installed on the pc, although I was looking and the full version of Swiss manager is 160 euros!!! looks like I'm going to have to wait a little longer before I can make those tournaments.
