Coffee Rush

I felt it as soon I woke up. I can usually tell how my day would go from the moment I open my eyes.
The first sign came on instant. My alarm clock blared at me, 7:55 am stared back in very big bold red figures.

"Have they always been that big?"
"Is that the real issue right now?"
"Do you have to counter everything I say?"
"Maybe if you stopped spitting out nonsense I wouldn't have to".

Tired of the argument between my two counterparts I screamed, "Shut up inner voice one and don't you think about saying anything else inner voice two".
I rushed out of bed, flew in and out of shower, brushed my teeth and scurried out my room.
"Oh honey you are up"
"Mum, why didn't you wake me. You know I have an audition by 8:30", I asked while shoving things into my back pack.

"You looked so peaceful when I checked during the earliest hours of the morning plus I know you set your alarm. You always do"
I sighed, "It's fine it's fine. Where are the beans?"
"Up cupboard, on your left"
I got the coffee beans from the cupboard but in my haste to pour into my cup I spilled everything all over the counter.
"Fudgeball", I cursed
My mother sighed, "Just go"
"But I need my morning coffee", I sniffled almost crying.
Today was not just my day.
"Just grab a cup from the cafe one block from here"
"But but-"
"Your audition is in twenty minutes, go!!!!!!!".

I grabbed my things and ran out of the house. It was a 15 minutes walk and a five minutes ride, of course I opted for option two.
Next task, getting a cab which seemed almost impossible, everyone just drove past me like I was invisible. I checked my watch, 18 minutes till 8:30, if I walked double time I could still make it.
Unfortunately I would have to let go of my coffee. Just thinking about it broke my heart.
I hadn't even taken up to three steps when the rain came down like someone had offended it the day before.

"C'mon, the sky wasn't even cloudy, where did you even come from????", I screamed at the sky.
"From the clouds, the water droplets condensed and-"
"I swear if you say one more thing inner voice two I'mma kill you".
I looked around, people had opened their umbrellas and were going about their different day's activities. How did they know?. It wasn't even cloudy.
Walking was not an option anymore, still cabs refused to stop. I did the only thing I could do. I started running.

"Last call for Claudia Nelson"
"I'm here, I'm here", I panted
"Young lady are you sure you want to audition?"
"Yes please. I'm just really having a bad day"
"Okay".
"Wow that okay was really encouraging", inner voice one said
"I thought I told you to zip it"
"No that was inner voice two"
"Well both of you zip it", I whisper yelled.

"Is she talking to herself?", I heard one of the judges ask.
Thankfully I was saved by the sound of music. Wait that's not my song. Well it was but I had remixed the original and sent it over two days ago.
"That's not the version I sent to you", I told the guy in charge of the music.
"I can't find your version. I just need a minute to-"
"What do you mean you can't find it. Why is everything against me today?, first I didn't hear my alarm, then I spilled the beans and couldn't make my coffee, then all the cabs acted like I was invisible, rain came out of nowhere and now you can't find my song and I don't have coffee in my system and I'm going to cry"

The tears waited not a second longer. "I just", Hiccup, "Wanted some", Hiccup, "coffee", Hiccup.
"You can have mine", I turned around to see the bluest of eyes.
"Focus moron", one and two said at the same time.
Blue eyes had taken steps towards me stretching out his hand. The cup had the funniest inscription, "I get paid to stab people with sharp objects".
I laughed.

"Drink up and you can audition after the last person"
I nodded dumbly.
One sip and I felt all my worries wash away, when it was finally my turn, I felt like a renewed person and danced my heart out.
"And the last person returning for a call back is-"
I crossed my fingers
"Number 51".
I sighed sadly. "Psstt". I turned to the girl in front of me, "That's you", she whispered.

I looked down at my number. I was indeed number 51.
I squealed and jumped running to the front to take my place.I looked for blue eyes to return his cup. I found him eventually and timidly handed him his cup with a shy smile. He smiled back and said, "Never leave without taking your coffee first".
I nodded. "Never again"

The coffee really save your day
You know sometimes what we need is not something big but something to sip into our body that will calm our nerves and that what the coffee did for you.

All the best on your contest

It’s so great when a story grabs your humour-strings and you just giggle and laugh uproariously the whole way through. Everyone has those annoying inner voices and you’ve used those voices with expert precision to drive this tale, in a rush, towards its blue-eyed, coffeelicious conclusion. Bravo!

My new favorite word for the week😂😂

I'm glad I was able to make you laugh with my story. I had a really fun time writing it. I even had to facepalm myself a couple of times too because I felt her frustration 😆😆😆
