Lessons learned from my childhood that have impacted my lifestyle as an adult.

There are certain habits or behaviours we exhibit as adults now that were instilled in us since childhood. Our experiences and the type of upbringing we had had a great influence.

Growing up, I've learned so many good things from my parents, but only a few have become habits for me. Some of these things I learned since childhood that I still practice religiously as an adult include making my bed immediately after I wake up from sleep, washing the dishes before going to bed at night, how to multitask, and also the spirit of contentment.

**Habit of making bed immediately I wake up and being organised. **

At a young age, I was about 6 years old. My older siblings and I were taught the importance of always making our beds when we wake up, even before the morning devotions.

IMAGE IS MINE.

My mom will always ensure I also lay my bed, even though at that age it was almost always never neatly laid, but that did not make her stop making me do it. Instead, whenever I finish laying the bed, she'll help me arrange it neatly while I observe. At some point, whenever I was observing her, I thought to myself that it was nearly impossible for me to be able to arrange my bed neatly the way she does. This habit of making the bed immediately upon waking up became an integral part of me.

As I grew, I came to really enjoy making beds and keeping my environment clean and organised because I feel fulfilled whenever I see a well-laid bed and an organised room. This habit has remained with me to date.

I attended a boarding secondary school, and I remember back then I was given the award for the most organised and neatest student in Yellow House. There were occasions when I was called up, especially on Saturdays before the inspection, to go around the rooms in my hostel and help them lay the beds neatly. I had some of my seniors and even my juniors ask me to teach them how to lay beds the way I do.

Several times at work, I've helped my colleagues arrange their tables and the classroom properly because I cannot stand seeing scattered classrooms and disorganised tables. While some people view it as me being jobless, I am satisfied and happy doing it.

Washing dishes before bed.

Similarly, my mom had a rule that no dirty plate should be left in her kitchen sink overnight. She ensured she made a duty rooster for myself and my siblings to always wash the dishes before going to bed, and this has also become a habit for me. As a child, I was taught the importance of keeping not just other parts of the house tidy but also the kitchen before going to sleep.

Multitasking

As a girl child growing up in a typical Nigerian home, I had no choice but to learn how to multitask by just observing mom. She taught me how to manage and execute multiple tasks simultaneously. I've watched her do it effortlessly. Cooking and also, at the same time, doing house chores and maybe other things.

As a result, this has helped me in my adulthood to handle multiple tasks simultaneously because I was able to master it. My colleagues at work and friends alike always wonder at my capabilities to multitask without making mistakes while at it.

All I can say is that some of these things I learned in childhood have greatly shaped me. I find it easy to work and still keep my environment clean and organized. My parents did a great job instilling these habits in me because I derive joy and satisfaction from executing them.
