Confectionery of the Mill [ENG/ESP]
Hello to all Hive friends! Today I want to share with you an architectural work related to a coffee shop located in front of the great congress square in the autonomous city of Buenos Aires. A building that had commercial and residential uses, it housed ice factories, pastry shops and different gastronomic aspects.
This building always caught my attention and I never really knew what it was about, but I decided to visit it even though I could only photograph the exterior since it was closed for restructuring and remodeling.
Well, after having decided to visit today I share with you something about this work.
Hola a todos amigos de Hive! El día de hoy quiero compartir con ustedes una obra arquitectónica referente a una confitería ubicada frente a la gran plaza del congreso en la ciudad autónoma de Buenos Aires. Un edificio que tuvo usos comerciales y de viviendas, se alojaban fabricas de hielo, pastelerías y distintos aspectos gastronómicos.
Realmente siempre me llamo la atención este edificio y nunca terminé de conocer de que se trataba, pero decidí visitarlo aunque solo pude fotografiar el exterior ya que se encontraba cerrado por motivos de reestructuración y remodelaciones.
Pues luego de haber decidido visitar hoy les comparto algo sobre ésta obra.
The confectionery of the mill has an Art Nouveau style and was built in 1912 to be completed five years later, by 1917 with a structural system of reinforced concrete and having a surface of more than five thousand square meters. The architect Francesco Gianotti was responsible for this work and over the years it has belonged to several owners to finally be in the hands of the national government approximately 8 years ago.
The building is one of the most emblematic of the city since its materials were brought from abroad and the marble of its columns stands out.
La confitería del molino tienen un estilo de Art Nouveau y fue construida en el año 1912 para ser finalizada cinco años después, para el año 1917 con un sistema estructural de hormigón armado y teniendo una superficie de más de cinco mil metros cuadrados. El responsable de esta obra fue el arquitecto Francesco Gianotti y con el pasar de los años ha pertenecido a varios propietarios para finalmente quedar en manos del gobierno nacional desde hace unos 8 años aproximadamente.
El edificio se descarga por ser uno de los más emblemáticos de la ciudad ya que sus materiales fueron traídos del exterior y se destaca el mármol que contienen sus columnas.
The name of this building is due to the fact that it used to be a mill and in spite of having passed through several hands, the original structure and the name were kept, mentioning that it is the same mill it has always been. This work has been remodeled in terms of the interior and what it has housed over the years depending on the owners but always with its essence.
It consists of 3 basements, a first floor and 5 floors where there are living quarters and offices, in the basements there used to be ice factories and even a mechanical workshop.
In front of the building there are blades that identify the building as the mill of Buenos Aires.
El nombre de este edificio se debe a que anteriormente funcionaba un molino y a pesar de haber pasado por varias manos se mantuvo la estructura original y el nombre mencionando que es el molino de siempre. Este obra a tenido remodelaciones en cuánto al interior y lo que ha albergado durante años dependiendo de los dueños pero siempre con su ecencia.
Está constituido por 3 subsuelos, una planta baja y 5 pisos en dónde funcionan viviendad y oficinas, en los subsuelos funcionaron fábricas de hielo y hasta un taller mecánico.
Frente al edificio se ubicó aspas que identifican al edificio como el molino de Buenos Aires.
This confectionery since its inception has had many drawbacks to the point that it has always been in restructuring due to economic crises, it was burned during a coup d'état in the 30's where a revolution occurred in the country.
It was finally closed in 1997 and until then they have not been able to reach an agreement for the confectionery to reopen its doors definitively and thus be able to give it an active use. However, on occasions the confectionery has opened its doors offering guided tours for tourists who decide to visit its interior.
These visits very rarely take place and I personally have not had the opportunity to access it, but I hope to do so very soon and thus be able to offer you a second part of this emblematic architectural work.
Ésta confitería desde sus inicios ha tenido muchos inconvenientes a tal punto que siempre a estado en reestructuraciones por crisis económicas, fue quemado durante un golpe de estado en los años 30 donde se produjo una revolución en el país.
Fue finalmente cerrado en el año 1997 y hasta entonces no han podido llegar a un acuerdo para que la confitería reabra sus puertas definitivamente y así poder darle un uso activo. Sin embargo en ocasiones la confitería ha abierto sus puertas ofreciendo visitas guiadas para turistas que deciden conocer su interior.
Éstas visitas muy rara vez se producen y personalmente no he tenido la oportunidad de poder acceder pero espero hacerlo muy pronto y así poder ofrecerles una segunda parte de ésta emblemática obra arquitectónica.
Without anything else to add I hope you have been able to appreciate this post that despite having very few photographs I did my best to capture some because the location where it is located is quite complicated by the accesses that are there, plus the sunlight at that time did not favor me.

Sin nada más que agregar espero hayan podido apreciar este post que a pesar de tener muy pocas fotografías hice lo posible por capturar algunas ya que la ubicación donde se encuentra es bastante complicado por los accesos que ahí se encuentran, además de que la luz del sol en esas horas no me favorecían.
