Old Munich Brewery Building [ENG/ESP]
Greetings Hive friends and architecture lovers 😃. One of the most interesting things about touring cities is that you always come across places that you don't know about, that you didn't know existed or were there and that to anyone's eyes goes unnoticed.
Well, I did a tour of the Costanera Sur in the neighborhood of Puerto Madero and unintentionally found an interesting architectural work and quite hidden so to speak, so I decided to take pictures of it and researching I find out that it is the old building of the Munich brewery.
A place built in 1927 and famous for being the place frequented by important figures of the 70's like Pablo Neruda for example.
Saludos amigos de Hive y amantes de la arquitectura 😃. Una de las cosas más interesantes de recorrer las ciudades es que siempre te topas con lugares que desconoces, que no sabías que existían o estaban allí y que a los ojos de cualquiera pasa inadvertido.
Bueno, yo hice un recorrido por la Costanera Sur en el barrio de Puerto Maderoy sin querer encontré una obra arquitectónica interesante y bastante escondida por así decirlo, así que decidí hacer fotos de ello e investigando me entero de que se trata del viejo edificio de la cervecería Munich.
Un lugar construido en 1927 y famoso por se el lugar que frecuentaban figuras importantes de la época de los años 70 como Pablo Neruda por ejemplo.
The building is built under a reinforced concrete structural system and presents a style that varies between Art Deco, eclecticism and picturesqueness under the construction and design of architect Andrés Kalnay, has three floors and has a little more than 1500 square meters approximately.
Initially the owner of this work was Ricardo Banus, a businessman of Catalan origin who together with the architect Kalnay finished the work in a very short time, about 4 months. This architect and designer was not only in charge of the architecture and design but also had to do with most of the work in terms of stained glass, walls, sculptures and representative forms of beer.
El edificio está construido bajo un sistema estructural de hormigón armado y presenta un estilo que varia entre Art Deco, eclecticismo y pintoresquismo bajo la construcción y diseño del arquitecto Andrés Kalnay, cuenta con tres pisos y tiene un poco más de 1500 metros cuadrados aproximadamente.
En un principio el propietario de esta obra fue Ricardo Banus, un empresario de origen catalán que junto con el arquitecto Kalnay finalizaron la obra en muy corto tiempo, alrededor de 4 meses. Este arquitecto y diseñador no solo se encargó de la arquitectura y diseño sino que también tuvo que ver con la mayor parte de la obra en cuanto a vitrales, paredes, esculturas y formas representativas de la cerveza.
After all its boom, like many buildings and works in Buenos Aires that were abandoned, this one was no exception, so apart from being a brewery it had other purposes and other varied uses over time. The consequences of the abandonment gave rise to the expected deterioration of many parts of the building, more specifically in its interiors, however some of them could be rescued.
By the end of 1970, remodeling was done to make room for another site to be installed in the building, which was a telecommunications museum to be inaugurated in 1980.
Luego de todo su auge como muchos edificios y obras de Buenos Aires que tuvieron abandonos éste no fue la excepción, así que aparte de ser una cervecería tuvo otras finalidades y otros usos variados a través del tiempo. Las consecuencias del abandono dieron lugar al esperado deterioro de muchas partes del edificio más específicamente en sus interiores sin embargo pudieron ser rescatados algunos de ellos.
Para finales de 1970 se hicieron remodelaciones para dar lugar a otra sede instala en el edificio que se trató de un museo de telecomunicaciones para luego ser inaugurado en el año 1980.
By the year 2002 its use would be destined to another activity and it became state property giving it a cultural use and carrying out activities of this role through the establishment of what was at that time the general direction of museums. Later we come to the present and we find that this building houses the museum of humor.
Although I never knew about it and it seems to be far away from its cultural activities, I was able to get information and learn that it was enabled for emergency use where tests are performed in the population with pcr tests for pandemic reasons.
Para el año 2002 ya su uso se destinaría a otra actividad y paso a ser propiedad del estado dándole un uso cultural y llevando a cabo actividades de este rol mediante la instauración de lo que era en aquella época la dirección general de los museos. Posteriormente nos venimos a la actualidad y encontramos que este edificio alberga al museo del humor.
Aunque nunca supe de él y pareciera estar muy alejado de sus actividades culturales pude informarme y conocer que fue habilitado para uso de emergencias en dónde se realizan testeos en la población con pruebas pcr por motivos de pandemia.
As I have already commented in different architecture posts, Buenos Aires is one of the cities where this type of extravagant constructions were destined to institutions regardless of the reason, be it banks, tank storage, schools, and now we see that even a brewery had this architectural style.
This is my contribution for today in this beautiful community to show the old and emblematic Munich brewery.
Cómo ya he comentado en distintos post de arquitectura Buenos Aires es una de las ciudades en dónde este tipo de construcciones extravagantes eran destinadas a instituciones sin importan el motivo ya sean bancos, almacenamiento de tanques, escuelas, y ahora vemos que hasta una cervecería tuvo este estilo arquitectónico.
Este es mi aporte para el día de hoy en esta hermosa comunidad dando a conocer la antigua y emblemática cervecería Munich.

It looks more of an residential estate rather than a brewery. The purple hue in the stairs make it more appealing. !discovery 20

It does not look like a brewery building, it has a modern vibes design but it is really cool.
I really liked the pillars designers but this building is a surprise as a brewery.
