Latin America's largest Bolivar Square

First of all, I want to give you the context of who was the person who inspired the construction of this plaza. Simon Bolivar, was a Venezuelan military man who is considered the "Liberator" of America since he actively contributed in the liberation of at least 5 countries in South America, that was back in the 1800's when we were still a colony of Spain, so maybe now you can understand why he is such an important figure (everything I mentioned is taught to us in school and is general culture of our country).

The aforementioned is the reason why every municipality, city, state and of course the capital, has a Bolivar Square. So I present to you the Bolivar Square of Maracay which is known locally as the largest in Latin America and the truth is that I do not know if this data is real, but I want to clarify that it is referred only to Bolivar squares, so obviously not including other squares in the region that can surely be larger.

As you have been able to see so far, this square has a quite remarkable space, in fact, I estimate that it is the equivalent of a couple of blocks. It has sidewalks so that people can rest and enjoy the fresh air produced by the large number of trees and vegetation that provide pleasant shadows.

A striking element, which is the centerpiece of this square and which, of course, could not be missing, is the statue of Simon Bolivar. It looks imposing with the horse with both front legs up and with Bolivar holding his hat in his right hand. The statue rests on a marble base with the inscription "He died in the San Pedro Alejandrino farm on December 17, 1830".

One of the structures that give a good impression to the eye is the Bolivarian Military Technical Academy which is located in front of the Bolivar square, in the photos it seems that it is immediately to the side, but in reality they are separated by Bolivar Avenue. As you can see, this academy has a nice structure that when mixed with the trees of the square, generates a nice impression and I think that is produced by the color of the building.

On the other hand, next to the square lies the Aragua State Government Palace, a very well preserved white and beige painted structure with a very particular building which has a width of almost the entire width of the square. I understand that this palace was once a renowned hotel, but was later transformed into a government building.

Finally, I want to share with you some photos I took of the squirrels that roam the trees and bushes of Plaza Bolivar, I know they have nothing to do with architecture and design, but I thought they were nice pictures of these noble animals. In addition to these squirrels, we can also see iguanas, but of the latter I could not take worthwhile photos.

It was a pleasure to share once again a symbolic place of Maracay, this city is small and therefore lacks spectacular structures, but my intention is to humbly show you the best we have here. Greetings!

Your photographic posts continue to touch my heart hahaha, but I like them a lot because they update me on this city that sheltered me for 20 years of my life and which I owe so much to.

All the photos are incredible, I see that you have enjoyed your role as photographer in Maracay very well and it shows with the photos you get. The photos of the squirrels are great and I loved seeing this part of the city once again, which is another great reference for when we go to visit the center of it.

A big hug my dear Dina and happy week 🌹💖... You Absolutely Rockkk!!! 👍😎🔥📸❤️

Hello my Fer, I'm glad that the photos touch your heart, I must say that when I took them I felt strange or nostalgic, I was years out of the country and the feeling was somewhat different.

That squirrel was very funny! I love it, I hope to bring more of known or emblematic places of Maracay.

Thanks for your support! many hugs!

Greetings @dinaaczib, Looking closely at this historic square, it can be said that the statue of Simón Bolívar stands out. As you mentioned, he has become a national hero due to his excellent performance. Many of the most attractive buildings can be seen in this area, and the shade and coolness provided by the large trees provide comfort to the visitors.

He is the protagonist of our Venezuelan history. The surrounding buildings are very interesting and have great history, hopefully in the future I can bring them in more detail.
Thank you very much for stopping by!

the bolivar square is certainly very emblematic in every municipality and state of venezuela. The bolivar square here in my city also has a very similar simón bolivar square, they are practically in the same pose hehehehe.

It is a huge square, with a very striking design in terms of architecture. It is a beautiful place.
