Taking A Break and Scribbling A Poem: Reminiscing My Younger Years Of My Puppy Love | A Nostalgic Tale

Scribbling a simple love poem while having a break, as I sit here, memories of my younger years flood my mind. With someone in mind, the tender moments I shared with my grade school sweetheart. Our story is a mixed bag of emotions and the faintest notion that, at one time or another, life's timing can be beyond bearing.

Community gatherings and town fiestas were a staple of our childhood in the countryside; our teacher would often pair us up for dances. As always, I am a part of these activities, and my partner was a bright-eyed boy with a charming smile. As a long-time friend, our parents seemed to approve of our pairing, following the traditional "BUYA" custom like the Chinese, where parents have preferences for their children's partners.

Growing older, our bond is full of vim and vigor. We hit it off, and people around us have their figments of imagination, hoping that we were meant to be. But a twist of fate played on us. My family had to move to the city, and we lost touch. One summer outing, where we laughed, sang, and danced under the sun, was the last time we spent together.

I often wondered what could have been as the years went by. In high school, a friend mentioned that you hoped we'd meet again, as your mother's wish. When we finally reunited in college, you were already with someone else. I pulled the strings to hold back my sentiments, as seeing you happy with your partner felt like a thorn in my heart.

This experience inspired a poem:
Puppy Love
Our parents used to bring us together
Even our teachers paired us with every gathering
We were close to each other till we got older
Became inseparable and grew to like each other
And people thought it was going to be "US"
But fate has played a great role in us
We moved out to the city and left you behind
We constantly communicate till it fades
We lost contact and never heard each other
I thought I had forgotten you
And I was sad but became used to it
We met one day when I went back to the province
And was introduced to your significant other
I felt my world was shattered
But I managed to hide it inside myself
I saw the happiness you felt and you were so proud of her
As you both bid goodbye and left me
That was the time I knew that I loved you...
Sometimes, life twists and turns to tug at our heartstrings into who we're meant to be, and I become aware of this as I ponder over our story. That childhood romance of bits and pieces of a never-to-be-forgotten memory, though our paths took a bend, was a reminder of the fragility and beauty of our first love.

How about you? What was the story of your first love? Let's hear it from you.

Your words brought to life the innocence of childhood, the subtle spark of connection, and the way our hearts learn to hope before they ever learn to heal. It’s a tender reminder that some moments never fade, no matter how much time passes.
They say that first love never dies. It is so nice to dwell on our childhood past. Sometimes, it brings happiness; other times, it brings sadness. It was so heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time.☺️ It feels good at an early age that our parents and the people around us want us to stay together. Maybe we would have stayed together if my family had not moved to Davao City and if I had not studied in Manila.😔
Be that as it may, we weren't meant for each other. Even to this day, his siblings still communicate with me and always say, a sister-in-law that we never had. 🤩 You won't believe the antics of his generous-to-a-fault eldest brother! On some occasions, when he and his brother visit the province, he finds the most creative ways for us to chat. He would ask his brother to call pretending that we were discussing the upcoming class reunion. 🤣 He even tips me off, "Shhh...just play your cards close to your chest. My brother's over-possessive wife's eyes have a cloak and dagger!" It’s so funny and I would just laugh at him. By the way, the wife is well aware that her mother-in-law adores me a lot, which makes her a bit envious!
The funniest thing, and it spells it out even more, is that she’s befriended me on social media. I couldn’t help but burst with laughter as I told her, “Hey, it’s been decades! We both have our own lives now, so there’s no need for concern—I’m no serpent!”🤗 Be happy and secure.
Your story is a beautiful blend of nostalgia and comedy. A little ache, a little mischief, and a whole lot of heart. 🥰 It’s touching how your connection with him still echoes through his family, like a love story that never truly got its final chapter. Life had other plans, but it’s beautiful that you can look back now with laughter, warmth, and no regrets.
It became a comedy and mischief because of his tolerant brother. Whenever he talks or sees me, he always reminds me of what happened with me and his brother. His brother is enough to drive me up the wall! He knocks me off my head. When we talk, he always brings up the subject of his brother, and I didn't end up together, and he always says that he felt blues in his heart (Arte talagà!🤣). I always tell him, Kuya, it's a thing of the past. Don't look back, just reminisce! It's been a long time and a lot has happened. If his wife hears you, she'll be hurt and even more angry with you. Enough, kuya!🤗
Haha, Kuya is like a true character! 🤭 It’s funny how he just can’t let go of the past like he’s holding on to a love story he never got closure from himself! But honestly, I get it sometimes the people around us get more attached to our stories than we do. Maybe for him, it’s not just about what could’ve been, but about how much he valued your presence in their lives. I love how you gently remind him to keep it light and not stir anything that doesn’t need stirring. That’s real maturity with a side of wit. 🥰
Hahaha...napakakulit! He always teases me and reminds of his brother's sweet memories with me. Sometimes he would sends me funny quotes about first love and in one time or another he would call me and we just talk for an hour of our happy memories in the province. He never run out of stories and quotes.🤣🤣🤣
Haha, he really knows how to keep the fun going! Always teasing and sharing stories, it’s nice to have someone who treasures those memories as much as you do. 😀
Indeed, he always used his charm, and there was no dull moment with his older brother. Super kulit! He knows how to keep the fire burning! 🤩🤩
Oh Ate, I can relate to this. That summer, I had a crush on him. We became friends, and we returned to our hometown after the summer. The poem you wrote is on point. Nostalgic it is.
We all have our first love and the feeling is spine-tingling.🤩 But most of those stories are just a recollection of our childhood because few Puppy Loves stay together till they reach maturity unless they grow up together and nurture the relationship.😔
I'm with my puppy love and maybe we are still in a puppy love relationship haha
Oh, is your husband was your first love? It's delightful to know. A heartwarming one.💖
YEEEEESSSS! MAybe I'll tell a story about it haha
Go ahead! I wanna hear your puppy love tale and am sure everyone likes to read about your story. I'll be waiting.💖
Yeahhhhh... Alright, I hope I can write about it soon!😄
I'll be waiting. I'm excited to read it na.💖
Reading this, makes me reminisce my past experience of puppy love too! Ohh, those days.
Hahaha... It's a heart-rending recollection of our puppy love. The one that we did not end up with.😔
