My Top 5 Best Animated Movies for the Whole Family

(Edited)

The best animated movies are the ones that will entertain, make the entire family laugh, and feel good after watching. As a mother, watching animated movies with my 6 year old is our way of bonding and feeling cozy together snuggled on the sofa. These are the films that we keep watching over and over again.

Here are the movies for the young and the young at heart:

Toy Story Series

Timeless. My daughter and I will never get tired of watching this animated comedy film. Can you imagine it was first shown in 1995? Woody and Buzz Lightyear instantly became our best buddies as we joined them in their adventures. A cowboy toy gets jealous of the attention the new toy, Buzz Lightyear receives since its arrival. It is interesting to watch how their rivalry turned into friendship and how everyone's relationships evolved as well. For me, it's definitely the best animated movie ever made for the whole family.

Le Petit Prince (Little Prince)

It's a 2015 animated film based on the novel of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. It is about a little girl who lives under the strict guidance of her mother to train during the summer in order to get into Werth Academy.

She meets her next door neighbor, an old man who was an aviator. In the story, the aviator crash lands in the Sahara desert and meets a little prince from another planet. It's a movie for the young and old. The premise of the story remind us that even as adults, we should never give up on our dreams, imagination, and love.

It comes with a great soundtrack too.

Frozen

Frozen 1 & 2 are both 3D computer animated films about love between two sisters; Elsa and Anna of Arendelle. Inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's The Snow Queen. I am sure everyone must have seen this by now but for those who haven't, the first movie is about a courageous princess (Anna) who travels to find her missing sister(Elsa) along with an iceman (Kristoff), a reindeer (Sven) and a cute snowman (Olaf).

The sequel was the first and last movie I have watched in the cinema with my daughter.

Ballerina (Leap!) 2016 Film

This 3D animated film is a story of friendship and chasing dreams. Best friends, Félicie and Victor escape the orphanage to go to Paris. Félicie dreams of becoming a ballerina. She stumbles upon an opportunity to join a highly trained class of ballet dancers in Paris Opera disguised as someone else. I am amazed by the animated dancing movements that captured the protagonist's passion for ballet.

Moana.jpg

Moana

This 2016 animated film is also known as Vaiana and Oceania. Moana is the tenacious daughter of the chief of the island village of Motunui who is drawn to the sea. When her island is threatened, she goes into an adventure to search for Maui, the shape-shifting demigod in order to save her people.

The ocean chooses her as the one to restore the legendary heart of the Goddess Te Fiti. It's a perfect film for my daughter to watch for it's about empowered women. The female protagonist struggles in the beginning learning how to sail, but her tenacity and courage sees her through. She may have self doubts initially, but she eventually heeds her calling and follows her heart in becoming a way finder.

What about you? What is in your list of top 5 best animated movies?

Thank you so much @Asean.hive team. Ballerina was released a year later in Asia with the U.S. title - Leap! (with an exclamation mark). I can't remember how many times we have seen it, but we enjoy it every time. Happy watching!

Hi JA, the child in me would like to collect toys from the Toy Story characters. When we watched a Disney Park Parade and the cast of Toy Story surprisingly made an appearance, I was screaming more than my daughter haha. Love love Moana too.

Oh yes! we love Shrek and Tangled too. 😃 Mandy Moore's voice is perfect for Rapunzel. Shrek also has a great soundtrack and charm for repeated watching.
