(ESP-ENG) ¡El City sale vivo del Bernabeu! - City leaves the Bernabeu alive!

Good evening everyone! The Champions League semi-finals have started, bringing today the first duel of the series between Real Madrid and Manchester City. Perhaps today the two best teams in the world. Ancelotti's team came into this match with the freedom of not having to make maximum effort for the league, but with the Copa del Rey already in the White House's trophy cabinet; on the other hand, City, with their constant fight against Arsenal for the Premier League title, and with a final against their neighboring rival in a couple of weeks for the FA Cup. Slightly different presents, but equally high in status. Real Madrid, who no matter if they are in a great moment or not, or if they play a flashy or otherwise far from pleasant soccer, the team, in the Champions League, wins, almost every time. And Manchester City, which for a long series of seasons has been looking for the longed-for crown, playing a soccer that many - including myself - love, but which, at least in the Champions League, does not win it. Ancelotti vs Guardiola, a guaranteed spectacle. Between the aforementioned parity, the final result increased the equality of the opposing teams, the match ended 1-1, with some nuances and certain observations to be broken down. Here are my feelings and analysis of the match, join me!

LOS ENFRENTAMIENTOS ENTRE CELESTES Y BLANCOS SE ESTAN VOLVIENDO HABITUALES - CLASHES BETWEEN SKY BLUE AND WHITE ARE BECOMING COMMONPLACE

For Guardiola, facing Madrid is nothing new; he did it with Barcelona for just over 4 years, with ups and downs along the way. He also did it with Bayern, with lows and no highs, as the only time Pep faced Madrid while managing Bayern, he suffered one of his worst -if not the worst- defeats while managing his teams. And with City, he already has, with this match, 3 series against Madrid. With a balance of one advance (2020) and one elimination (2022).

In 2020, City would eliminate Zidane's Madrid, with an aggregate score of 4-2. Beating in both matches a Madrid still in transition due to the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo and a Benzema on the eve of becoming the leader of the team; in that pandemic era, City would comfortably win the series; at the Bernabeu, despite starting the match losing, they were able to come back in the final minutes with the leadership of De Bruyne, with the Belgian sharing an assist and a goal from a penalty. For the second leg, at the Etihad, and with the stadium empty, City would take advantage of Varane's blunders in defense, and Sterling and Gabriel Jesus would put their names on the scoreboard to advance City to the quarterfinals, where they would be defeated by Rudi Garcia's surprising Lyon.

The other series is a fairly recent one and one of which all of us soccer fans have perfect memories, it was the series in which we soccer fans confirmed officially, unquestionably and palpably that Real Madrid is the King of Europe, staging a wonderful comeback in just under 3 minutes, 5 minutes away from being eliminated. There is no need to write an account of that series, to summarize in letters what happened in that series would be disrespectful to the emotions. However, I must say that City won at the Etihad, increasing their unbeaten home record, an interesting fact that I will go into in more detail later on.

And today, it would be the start of the third series that would mark an imbalance for Pep in his results against the Merengue team. Madrid and City, two constant seekers of the Champions League, it is no longer surprising that they face each other in the definitive instances...

PARTIDAZO Y GOLAZOS - GREAT MATCH AND GREAT GOALS

There would be no surprises in the lineups of Madrid and City, although on the side of Pep's team I call attention to the inclusion of Walker and not Ake, I assumed at the time that it would be to mark Vinicius in speed, as the body can be stopped in 10 occasions, but maybe in 5 it will escape. Thus avoiding what happened in the last tie between the two teams, with Fernandinho marking Vinicius, and the City captain being responsible for Vinicius' great goal by escaping down the flank.

City had absolute control of the ball for the first 25 minutes, generating three approaches with some danger, but that Madrid's defense and Courtois were able to repel in the best way. Around 75% of possession belonged to the English team at the Bernabeu, Madrid, to their own; pragmatic, doing a lot of damage with Vinicius and Rodrygo, with the usual fast transitions.

City did not take advantage of their approaches and Madrid sent the first one into the net. Vinicius revalidates his position as the best winger in the world, scoring a real goal in which Ederson could not do anything; control oriented after an advantageous pass from Camavinga, powerful shot from outside the area. 1-0 and Madrid was being Madrid.

For the second half, City would neglect their defense a little more, but would go with greater impetus to attack, something totally understandable. Madrid would try to take advantage of those spaces but could not finish. And in Madrid's best moment came City's equalizer; Camavinga would make a rude mistake by misplacing a ball in the middle, Rodrigo would recover the ball and give it to Grealish, setting up Gundogan and the German, in a great flash of quality by covering the ball perfectly with his body against Rudiger's mark, would leave the ball alive to De Bruyne who "only" had to shoot with force, "only" is a way of saying, but the Belgian's precise and powerful shot was good enough to beat Courtois and put the 1 to 1.

City would not make any changes, Madrid would give Nacho, Tchouameni and Asensio, the white house threw itself to seek the winning goal but could not get it, and City left the Bernabeu alive with the hope of eliminating Madrid in a stadium where it has not lost yet in Champions League against the Merengues...

CONCLUSIONES FINALES Y DESPEDIDA - FINAL CONCLUSIONS AND FAREWELL

In the final minutes, Bernardo made several gross mistakes, was inattentive and tired, I think Madrid noticed that and started to attack down the left side, but could not score. I thought that Guardiola would make a change by taking off the Portuguese, but he left him on the field and risked losing the game. Already in the press conference, Pep said he didn't make changes because Grealish and Bernardo are players capable of keeping the ball, which was what the team needed at that moment... he could have paid dearly for it.

Haaland was totally neutralized by Rudiger and Alaba, both making a sensational duo and Militao was not missed today.

I consider City a team that is practically unbeatable at home. I considered Madrid a team that specializes in home comebacks, which would be very complicated if they lost the first leg at home, but after seeing -and suffering, of course- how they came back against Barcelona in the Copa del Rey, I think the tie is wide open, with a slight advantage for City as they close at home, but Madrid is Madrid...

And so, at the end of this post, thank you very much for your support and we'll keep reading!
