Greetings 🖖🏿

Yesterday after work I decide to go to a nearby art museum to get some me time and to sip some coffee ☕️ at cafe on the premises. I’ve wanted to do this for some time but always had some engagement or another in the evenings.

Finally the stars aligned and I had the time. The exhibition was called “ものがたりの予感” ( monogatari no yokan) which literally translates to “premonition of story”. So basically stories through art. I wasn’t sure what to expect but based on the promo board, I thought these pieces would be the main. They weren’t.

So I got my ticket 🎟 which cost ¥620 ($4.80). Not bad at all. I liked how the ticket looked really official ( well of course right ) but thought I’d also like a digital version in the form of an NFT I can display online. Oh we block heads, our minds are augmenting our reality.

In most museums, taking pictures is prohibited 🚫. But you know, I think if they made it ok to take photos, more people would come to see the art. After all, the best form of marketing is word of mouth via picture and video on social media. Anyways I did the classy thing and secretly snapped these pieces near the entrance of the exhibition. You should have seen me, it was like mission impossible, I waited until the staff was out of sight for a brief sec and snapped theses two “Guardians” as they were called. They were quite the character, animal skulls in space suites. What an imagination.

During mission impossible 2, I was caught taking a picture of this multi scene drawing called “Electric Fairy” by Duffy, France. A very famous piece but a miniature version and a replica. The multi piece drawing showed the history of Europe / the world and its development with Gods in the middle of it all. It also showed all the famous creatives and inventors over the years and how the world gradually became industrialized. To the far left, the electric fairy flying through time to all the world 🌎 and the invention of communication and the refinement of the arts.

“You took a picture didn’t you”

“Yeah”.

“Please don’t take pictures”.

I tried to cover up the sound of the phone camera with a cough but I was a bit too early. There are also motion sensor cameras all around. Mission failed but a snap for the HIVE retrieved.

And now it was time to get that coffee and chill. The museum offers a restaurant/ cafe that has an awesome view of the lawn and building design. It also has some cool paintings on the wall. I was ready to relax and just look out the glass into infinity while sipping a good cup of coffee.

“Hi, sorry, our last order was at 4:00.”

“Oh…. O.k.”

“sumimasen”

“Yeah”

It was around 4:40 at the time. I missed the boat. There wasn’t a single person at the restaurant. Come to think of it I should have told them I just wanted coffee, maybe they would have obliged. But just the shock of hearing “last order at 4:00” was enough to let me thing WTF. But the thing is, the museum and this cafe are government subsidized “business” so their aim isn’t really on profits. They couldn’t careless if they got 1 customer all day, all wages would be paid.

Well, it’s a good thing the convenience stores here have some good drinks. But instead of coffee I went for a Strawberry Frappé. It was really good. Japan has some well grown strawberries 🍓 and though frozen, the berries had a freshness to them. The taste melted away the disappointment of not having my coffee and chill time at the museum but sometimes things don’t go as expected and I guess a failed to plan… but who would have thought that a restaurant/ cafe would have a last order at 4:00 pm? Well we can’t assume anything.I should have gotten the facts. We can walk around with long faces of our disappointments or find some berries and be merry 😂.

Nothing worse than the anticipation of a cafe visit and then finding it's closed! I always check the cafe first before the art 😂. Our museums and galleries, most of which are free, do get some government funding but also have to make a living. I try and use the cafes and spend money in the shop to help their income, so it's a double disappointment if I've missed the boat.

I'm not sure how I feel about taking photographs in art galleries. You can usually do it here providing you don't use flash, unless the object is especially fragile. I find it is helpful to take snaps as notes to remind me of things, but the camera is also mediating the experience, coming between you and whatever the artist wants to convey.

The stolen pics do look fascinating, though 😍

That seems like it would be a better idea, stimulate the mind with some coffee before taking is the art. Viewing the pieces made me sleepy, not that they were boring but I really tried to absorb every detail.

Taking pictures definitely distracts from being in the moment, but having just these few photos is a good memory itself. They had some really great pieces that I hope I can see in my mid when I sleep, I was literally trying to take photos with my mind. 😂

Hello @dmilliz,
Strawberry Frappe sounded like a brilliant choice!

I tried to cover up the sound of the phone camera with a cough but I was a bit too early. There are also motion sensor cameras all around. Mission failed but a snap for the HIVE was retrieved.

🤣😂
I hate that no picture taking a museums too. I know people who sneak and take some. I've never been prepared to do that, although I'm sure my olympus camera could probably fit under my clothes somehow 🤣
The ticket is so creative, you could save it for a bookmark or just for memorabilia.

I wonder what business would have been like there like 2/3 years ago?... but as you've said, it's govt subsidized so they couldn't care really.

It's always nice to see a bit of Japan, so thanks for stopping by:))))
Have a lovely weekend!

The staff really are vigilant too, and the place being silent a pin drop could be heard. I wish they at least allowed the staff to take photos of the customers at the museum. Even that would be a booster for their marketing.

That is true, I put it on my desk, I'll poke the ticket in a book and do just that. Thanks.

That's a good question as it is a really cozy spot. I'll be sure to ask when I eventually get that cup of coffee.

It's always a pleasure to share as well mi dear, especially with peoples who appreciate it.

And a blessed weekend to you too 😉

I like that idea. That makes a lot of sense actually!!

PeakD is not loading, but I got on to Ecency. I rarely use it, so I guess it's not a bad thing to check it out sometimes.
Have a great weekend:)))

Hmmm must be the node setting for the region. You can actually go in and change it but I figure you know that age it’s probably already working right.

Bless up!

As I understand it, going to the museum did not live up to your expectations. Huge halls and a small amount of exhibits look a little depressing).

It was a wide range but because there is no picture taking these few i took do not give the museum justice. The disappointment was in the cafe only. But the truth is museums are boring. 😄

Record background music for museums with reggae songs in Japanese), quiet, calm, like the sound of the tide on a seven-mile beach) They can appreciate it and museums will be more visited)

Nice blog pal. I couldn't agree with you more about museums and photo shooting. Usually i try to be friendly and polite with the guards and they are getting more flexible with the prohibition! At least in my country (Greece).
Ps: Thanks for the support vote on my post! I appreciate it a lot
