Story of the Week Contest with MARKIE

Markie nació en el hospital comunitario de un barrio situado en Risingstar este era muy reconocido debido a que muy a menudo estaba repleto de pandillas y problemáticas que rodeaban este lugar. Sin embargo, su madre junto a sus hermanos mayores lo cuidaron y mantuvieron alejado los más posibles de aquellas malas influencias y ejemplos del sitio.

Por lo general ese barrio estaba habitado por personas de color, por lo que como era los años 70, el racismo era un gran problema para estas familias, Markie creció al lado de su madre y hermanos, aunque porque trataban les fue muy difícil ocultarle la realidad que sufrían a diario.

A pesar de las penurias, Markie no desistió y estudio hasta el bachillerato, él por lo general siempre para la época escuchaba música muy recocida como lo era el rock, hip hop, entre otros, aunque el último era menos conocido, ya que era un movimiento musical que apenas estaba creciendo.

Markie al cumplir sus veinte años, ya que estaba metido de fondo en la música de estilo hip hop inspirado por artistas duros como "Tupac", él tenía en mente crecer como artista, por lo que para conseguir sus primeros recursos para grabar se vio involucrado en situaciones de peligro y crímenes como lo era vender sustancias ilícitas, a como toda persona con uso de razón él sabía que lo que hacía estaba mal y que de hecho ponía en riesgos a su familia también. Markie una vez tuvo un estudio casero para empezar a crear su música, buco su vieja libreta que hacía ya años había llenado con letras y rimas para sus primeros temas que relataban sus malas decisiones y tropiezos que tuvo en el proceso.

Markie was born in the community hospital of a neighborhood located in Risingstar, which was well known for being filled with the gangs and problems that surrounded it. However, his mother along with his older siblings took care of him and kept him as far away as possible from the bad influences and examples of the place.

Generally that neighborhood was inhabited by people of color, so as it was the 70's, racism was a big problem for these families, Markie grew up next to his mother and siblings, although because they tried it was very difficult to hide the reality they suffered daily.

Despite the hardships, Markie did not give up and studied until high school, he usually always listened to very popular music such as rock, hip hop, among others, although the latter was less known, as it was a musical movement that was just growing.

Markie in his early twenties, since he was already deep into hip hop music inspired by hardcore artists like "Tupac", he had in mind to grow as an artist, so to get his first resources to record he was involved in dangerous situations and crimes such as selling illicit substances, like any person with use of reason he knew that what he was doing was wrong and in fact he was putting his family at risk as well. Markie once had a home studio to start creating his music, he dug out his old notebook that years ago he had filled with lyrics and rhymes for his first songs that told the story of his bad decisions and stumbles he had in the process.

Markie por lo general nunca mostró su música como uso comerciales, pues simplemente como ya deben saber este género durante aquellos tiempos era poco conocido y muy pocas disqueras querían hacer colaboraciones con raperos.

La madre de Markie siempre lo apoyó en sus metas, pero su corazón se rompió a pedazos cuando se enteró como había logrado comprar sus para el estudio, pero a diferencia de otras madres, ella lo entendió, ya que la situación de Markie era fuerte, pero le pidió que jurará nunca más meterse en estos negocios ilegales. Markie como buen hijo que era obedeció e hizo caso a las súplicas de su madre. Y dejo pasar un tiempo en el que clandestinamente siguió creando temas en su estudio casero.

Durante una tarde de repente, un hombre con chaqueta de cuero y con cadenas en su cuello se acercó a Markie y le propuso una alianza musical, algo así como un contrato, sin embargo, de una forma más independiente, de manera que comenzaron a hacer pequeños eventos de canto en clubs de baile y así fue ganando reconocimiento por parte de su barrio y así poco a poco fue expandiendo su voz.

Pasaron los años y Markie era famoso, pero no tenía riquezas algunas, pues se mantenía fiel a su barriada y teniendo en cuenta que lo que reunía o sacaba de sus conciertos lo dejaba para ayudar a los más necesitados del lugar.

Markie generally never showed his music for commercial use, because as you may already know this genre was little known during those times and very few record labels wanted to do collaborations with rappers.

Markie's mother always supported him in his goals, but her heart broke to pieces when she found out how he had managed to buy his for the studio, but unlike other mothers, she understood, as Markie's situation was strong, but she asked him to swear never to get into these illegal businesses again. Markie like the good son he was obeyed and heeded his mother's pleas. And he let some time pass in which he clandestinely continued to create tracks in his home studio.

During a sudden afternoon, a man with a leather jacket and chains around his neck approached Markie and proposed a musical alliance, something like a contract, however, in a more independent way, so they began to do small singing events in dance clubs and thus he was gaining recognition from his neighborhood and thus little by little he was expanding his voice.

The years went by and Markie was famous, but he had no wealth, as he remained faithful to his neighborhood and taking into account that what he collected or took from his concerts he left to help the needy of the place.

Fue así que se dispuso a organizar una gira con el fin de poder reunir el mayor dinero posible y así crear una gran escuela para artistas de bajos recursos para que así dieran su primer salto con sus talentos, esta escuela tenía el nombre "Rappers School".

Lamentablemente, Markie con el tiempo tuvo un deterioro de salud y fue diagnosticado con una enfermedad incurable (Cáncer) y sus días ya estaban contados y a como era de esperar su muerte causó conmoción ante sus fanáticos, pues la mayoría de artistas de este género morían jóvenes, pero por causas de mafias y problemas de bandas, pero tal caso no fue lo que sucedió con Markie.

Ahora muchos los recuerdan con respeto, pues dejó muy en lo alto su legado siempre representando su ciudad y además fue él quien hizo que el género urbano fuera además de ser música, visto y considerado un arte.

So he set out to organize a tour in order to raise as much money as possible to create a great school for low-income artists so they could take their first leap with their talents, this school was called "Rappers School".

Unfortunately, Markie's health deteriorated and he was diagnosed with an incurable disease (cancer) and his days were numbered and as expected his death caused a commotion among his fans, because most of the artists of this genre died young, but because of mafias and gang problems, but this was not the case with Markie.

Now many remember him with respect, because he left his legacy very high, always representing his city and he was also the one who made the urban genre to be not only music, but also seen and considered an art.
