Visit Ngoc Linh Ginseng Garden - Vietnam's National Treasure

avatar

Hi Hivers in HiveGarden community, have you ever heard about Ngoc Linh ginseng? Ngoc Linh ginseng is a special ginseng grown only in Ngoc Linh mountain where the climate and soil are suitable for it. You may know Korean ginseng, but did you know that Ngoc Linh ginseng has a higher saponin content than Korean ginseng. Therefore, Ngoc Linh ginseng was declared a national treasure of Vietnam by the Prime Minister. Today I was fortunate to have the opportunity to visit this special ginseng garden, so I wanted to share it with you.

First let me talk a little bit about Ngoc Linh mountain. Ngoc Linh Mountain is a high mountain located on the border between Kon Tum province and Quang Nam province. The climate is humid all year round, the canopy of primeval forests and the special soil here are very suitable to create this special ginseng. You can grow this ginseng in other lands but you cannot make ginseng with high saponin content like in Ngoc Linh. In Ngoc Linh mountain, ginseng is grown right under the canopy of primeval forest.

And since it is a national treasure, it was not easy to get to this ginseng garden. Ngoc Linh ginseng garden is very strictly protected. First, Ngoc Linh is a mountain located in a remote land of Tu Mo Rong district. Secondly, to reach this ginseng garden, you have to go up a high mountain from its bottom, there is only one way to reach where Ngoc Linh ginseng is grown. You have to pass 6 security gates to set foot in the ginseng garden, and you will be blocked at the first gate. I was fortunate to be here because I was accompanied by provincial leaders on their survey trip.

Because of its high saponin content, Ngoc Linh ginseng is of very high value. There are ginseng roots worth more than one hundred million VND (equivalent to more than 5000 dollars). The older the ginseng roots, the higher the value. And the ginseng roots grown in Ngoc Linh mountain are usually harvested when they are at least 9 years old. There are ginseng roots that are more than 20 years old. It's not easy to make Ngoc Linh ginseng, is it? Ngoc Linh ginseng will hibernate once a year, at this time, the leaves and flowers of ginseng will be harvested.

I've read and heard about ginseng before but it's quite hard to buy in the market.
Thus, I've never seen one personal as well, haha.
Thanks for the tour, @dodovietnam.

Most of us in Vietnam just hear about Ngoc Linh ginseng, I'm one of some lucky people who have a chance to visit the garden.

I think ginseng is a herbal plant that treats certain diseases. Maybe that's one of the reasons why they preserved it. I like the place where the ginseng was planted.
